12 Rounds (2009)

Let's just say that someone decided to take Die Hard With A Vengeance and totally remake it with a new setting, different characters, and the same story line. That's what you get when you rent this movie but John Cena will play Bruce Willis's character. It also seems that everytime John is in a movie, his girlfriend gets kidnapped. Well, here is the story in a nutshell and it is a quite simple one. The FBI are after a arms dealer named Miles Jackson, who is played by Aiden Gillen (Shanghai Knights, Bubble Boy) and they can't seems to catch him until Officer Danny Fisher (Played By WWE Superstar John Cena) comes into the picture and gets him. The only reason he stopped is because his girlfriend was hit by a truck and died. The girlfriend is played by Taylor Cole (April Fools Day, An American In China) and now Miles wants revenge on Danny for that happening. So, He kidnaps Danny's girlfriend Molly, who is played by the beautiful Ashley Scott (Just Friends, Walking Tall) and forces Cena to engage in 12 rounds of fun filled action. So, the question is do you dare to watch this film or pass? As an action fan, I was sort of pleased with the movie, but you'll have to see for yourself. Two and The Half Stars Out of Five

Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun Li (2009)

I want to start off by saying that I enjoyed this movie a lot. I liked it better than the Street Fighter movie that starred Jean Claude Van Damme. This movie is a little different than that one. It follows how Chun Li becomes who she is and it's narrated by her in some parts of the movie to explain her transformation. The main character played by Kristin Kreuk (Eurotrip, Snow White) goes through life wondering what happened to her father until someone sets out to help her in her journey to get revenge against Bison (played by Neal McDonough). She eventually meets up with a man named gen, who is played by Robin Shou (Death Race, Mortal Kombat). Gen was a man that used to work for Bison and vows to help continue Chun Li's training. The movie is filled with great martial arts action and a great cast featuring Michael Clarke Duncan (Green Mile, Sin City) as the boxer Balrog, Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas as Vega, Chris Klein (American Pie, Rollerball) as Charlie Nash, and Moon Bloodgood (Terminator: Salvation, Pathfinder) as Det. Maya Sunee. The movie isn't the greatest one, but I'm a fan of martial arts movies and I enjoyed it. Three Stars Out Of Five

Bolt (2008)

Disney is like gold and every movie they make whether it be by Disney Pixar or just plain old Disney, their movies seems to have the Midas touch. Well, here is this one starring Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) as Penny, a girl who gets a dog and they become actors. The only thing is that they keep the dog locked in a trailer when there not shooting to make him think that it's not fake. The dog Bolt, who is played by John Travolta (Saturday Night Fever, Look Who's Talking) really believes that everything he has for superpowers is real. Until, the director played by James Lipton throws a curve ball and Bolt believes that Pennys been kidnapped. So, he goes after her and this is where the movie gets really good and cute. He meets up with a cat named Mittens (voiced by Susan Essman), who Bolt is forcing her to bring her back to Hollywood and along the way they meet the real star of the movie, Rhino (Voiced by Mark Walton), a hamster who believes that Bolt really does have superpowers. These three are the real dynamic trio for this movie and I believe this is really worth renting. So, go out and rent it and find out if Bolt gets his sweet Penny back. Four Stars Out Of Five

Billy Mays R.I.P. (1958-2009)

I know he wasn't a movie star but the guy was enjoyable to watch on the tube in between commercials while watching a flick on the tube. The guy could sell anything and I was very impressed with the TV show Pitchmen. The other thing that would bother me was the fact before he would do a commercial his beard looked normal until he had to shoot. When he would do the commercial, his beard looked very fake to me like he added color to it. Anyways, may Billy Mays rest in peace and isn't it weird that he was the same age as Michael Jackson. Hmmm!

April Fools Day (2008)

First off, I will start by saying that there is a reason that certain movies go straight to video and this is definitely one of them. I expected a whole lot more out of Scout Taylor Compton (Rob Zombies Halloween, Loves Unfolding Dream) after her excellent performance in Halloween as Laurie Strode. She plays Torrence Caldwell, a aspiring actress who is having her debutant's ball hosted by sister & brother Desiree & Blaine Cartier, who are played by Taylor Cole (12 Rounds, An American In China) & Josh Henderson (Step Up, Yours, Mine, & Ours) and features a whole bunch of the inner circle. The inner circle includes Joe Egender (The Hamiltons) as Ryan, Samuel Child (The Hamiltons) as Peter, Jennifer Siebel Newsome (Rent) as Barbie, and Sabrina Aldridge (Deck The Halls) as Milan. The only things is Desiree was using Torrance as bait to play an April fools day joke on Milan that turns deadly when she has a reaction to the drug and dies. Now, someone is out to get them all a year later and get them all back for her death. So, see what happens if you dare? I still enjoyed the original April Fool's Day more than this one and I'm hoping Scout has a repeat performance in the next installment of Rob Zombies Halloween 2.

Farrah Fawcett R.I.P. (1947-2009)

TV definitely lost a Icon for so many years, the very sexy Farrah Fawcett (1947-2009). She made her splash on the scene starring in the television show every adolescent boy enjoyed watching Charlie's Angels. Every guy worshiped everything about her and wanted to huh, never mind, but she was a very talented woman. Unfortunately, Farrah battled cancer in the intestine when it finally claimed her life this past week. God Bless Farrah Fawcett. Here are some interesting facts about her: Following the debut of Charlie's Angels (1976), the number of baby girls named Farrah increased dramatically in the US. In 1977 it was the 177Th most popular name. Was originally a Microbiology major in college until changing her major to Art in her sophomore year. And here is one of my favorite quotes from her, "The reason that the all-American boy prefers beauty to brains is that he can see better than he can think."

From The Vault: Michael Jackson-Thriller (1983)

This was a mini movie in itself and as I said in my tribute to him that this was what got me to want to watch horror movies. As little as I realized at the time, that this video was directed by John Landis (An American Werewolf in London, Twilight Zone: The Movie). The video starts with Michael Jackson (The Wiz, Men In Black 2) turning into a werewolf and chasing his girlfriend played by Ola Ray (48Hrs, Night Shift) and then we see them in the theatres and they soon leave, but things begin to change for them as Michael turns into a zombie. Some of the zombies with him are played by his sister Janet Jackson (Poetic Justice, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps), Hollywood make up artist and actor Rick Baker (Tropic Thunder, Star Wars), and features the voice of the late and great Vincent Price (The House On Haunted Hill, House Of Wax). It also features another late and great men to ever contribute to the horror genre Forest J Ackerman (Return Of The Living Dead Part 2, The Howling). So you see why the video was so special because so many great people contributed to this video. Michael's legacy will live on forever like the King Of Rock Elvis Presley. Five Out Of Five Stars

R.I.P. Michael Jackson (1958-2009)

I want to send my condolences to the family of one of the greatest pop artists to ever live. Never mind, all the things he may have or may have not done in his personal life because he is one of the greatest artists of all time. One of my favorite music videos to this day is still the Thriller video and it was one of the ones to get me into horror movies that I love so much. I loved everything about the video with the zombies and of all the things I can describe the horror master Vincent Price lends his voice to it. Michael was a true innovator and deserves the respect for what he has accomplished and now what he has done outside of that realm. The great thing is that Michael could take all the puns and jokes as he did star in Men In Black 2, and played agent M. He knew the role was to really make fun of him, but he was a good sport. So, I am going to write reviews for some of Michael's work this month. So Rest In Peace Michael Jackson (1958-2009) You will be missed!

Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans (2009)

I didn't know what to expect out of this movie and to be honest I had no expectations. I loved the first Underworld movie and thought the second one was great as well. I always did wonder how the war began and you get just that in this film because the movie is all about how the Lycans and Vampires became enemies. Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon, Underworld) returns as Lucian and we find out the exact details of his relationship with Viktor's Daughter Sonja. We see a side of him we did not see before because the fact that Lucian believes his race is the reasoning for his despair. As usual, Bill Nighly (Valkyrie, Underworld) does an excellent job as Viktor, the ruler of the Vampires and Rhona Mitra (Doomsday, Shooter) does a great job as Sonja. It's because of her love for Lucian that gets them into trouble and we see Lucian have to fight a major dilemma in his head. Does he stay for the reason of love or does he go for freedom? Other notables are Kevin Grevioux (Underworld, Men In Black II) who returns as Lucian's right hand man Raze and Steven Mackintosh (The Jacket, Underworld: Evolution) as Tannis, a man who helps Sonja and Lucian for his own benefit. So go out and rent the movie because it is not disappointing.

Chapter 27 (2007)

I was always curious about watching this movie and the fact that Jared Leto (Urban Legends, Lord Of War) gained a lot of weight just for this role amazed me. It's the story of how Mark David Chapman killed John Lennon. It's him telling it from his side of the story and I have to tell you that he is the biggest weirdo on the face of this planet. The movie will weird you out and make you disgusted at the fact that the people around him at the time never caught the signals that this man was a psychopath. It also stars Lindsey Lohan (Mean Girls, I Know Who Killed Me) as a girl named Jude who befriends the psycho at first. The weird thing is that the guy who plays John Lennon is named Mark Lindsey Chapman. What a coincidence huh? Four Stars Out Of Five

The Watchmen (2009)

This movie is based on a legendary comic book about a group of superheros who live in a society that no longer needs them. At least, that is what I thought part of the plot was about and I have to say maybe I should have read the original comic before I went to see this film. I didn't understand most of it because I feel it's due to not knowing the history of the film. The movie sarts off by telling you that it's 1985 and Richard Nixon is still president and has signed a law that puts superheros out of work. In the beginning, you see that one of them is killed right away and most of the team try to figure out what happened. The superheros were played by Jackie Earle Haley (Bad News Bears, Semi Pro) as Rorschach, the very sexy Malin Akerman (Harold & Kumar go to White Castle, 27 Dresses) as Silk Spectre II, Billy Crudup (The Good Sheppard, Big Fish) as Dr. Manhattan, Matthew Goode (Copying Beethoven, Match Point) as Ozymandias, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (P.S. I Love You, Fred Claus) as The Comedian, Patrick Wilson (Hard Candy, Lakeview Terrace) as Nite Owl II, and Carla Gugino (Righteous Kill, Race To Witch Mountain) as Silk Spectre I. I believe that the best character in the movie was definitely Rorschach and Jackie does a great job portraying him in this movie and I think I would've hated it if it wasn't for him. So go out and see if the heroes can find out whose trying to destroy the world and check out a couple of peculiar moments in this movie. The first one is really hot and it's the first ever superhero sex scene featuring the very hot Malin Akerman and the other is the rather weird one and it's Dr. Manhattan walking around naked constantly. Even though he is blue, you can see his penis throughout the whole film and it didn't need that! Three stars Out of Five.

From The Vault: End Of The Century: The Story Of The Ramones (2003)

I am a big fan of documentaries about rock bands and believe me this one is great. It tells the story of Joey, Dee Dee, Johnny, and Tommy Ramone of the great punk rock group called The Ramones. It really captures all the issues of misfortune, fame, drugs, and falling out of friendships in this movie. The movie features interviews with all four original members plus the ones that took over various positions like Marky, CJ, and Richie. It also features commentary from Blondie, Legs McNeil, Lars Frederiksen, and many more. It also features never before seen concert footage and a whole lot more. Michael Gramaglia and Jim Fields do an excellent job directing this movie and if you want to know more about the Ramones, then rent this movie cause it's worth it. Plus, you also learn a lot about the origin of punk and how The Ramones started it not the Sex Pistols or The Clash. Four Stars Out Of Five

Friday The 13th- The Killer Cut Edition (2009)

Friday the 13Th was one of my favorite horror franchises besides Halloween. The problem with these franchises is that they keep making sequels and sometimes the sequels are enjoyable, but be honest their not great. Then in this century, the new thing was to make remakes of these classics and it all started with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which was a classic movie, but for the blood and guts generation the original wasn't enough. It just so happens that the man that produced that film, also did this one and that man is Michael Bay. After, Rob Zombie did a masterful job re imagining Halloween, I believe Bay failed at this one. I enjoyed the kill scenes and thought Derek Mears did a terrific job playing Jason Voorhees, but they changed Jason and turned him into a completely different animal. He was another Michael Myers, and the fact he had a hide out under his sleeping quarters is completely absurd. This is not what Jason was supposed to be. Like I said before, I thought the movie was good and the acting was well done , but the new elements bothered me. The other stars of this film were Jared Padalecki (Cry Wolf, House Of Wax)as clay, a man looking for his missing sister, Danielle Panabaker (Mr. Brooks, Sky High)as Jenna, Amanda Righetti (Role Models, Return To House On Haunted Hill) as Clays missing sister, and Travis Van Winkle (Meet The Spartans, Transformers) as the jerk Trent. Other notables in the movie are Willa Ford and Ryan Hansen as they play a group of college students looking to get away for the weekend until they meet their maker, whose name happens to be Jason. So go out and judge this one for yourself. Michael Bay is in the works as we speak remaking A Nightmare On Elm Street with Jakie Earle Haley as Freddy Kreuger. Hopefully that is better than this. Two and the Half Stars out of Five.

The Hangover (2009)

This movie is directed by the man behind Old School and I have to tell you that I thought the movie was pretty good. The movie is about four guys, who decide to go to Vegas to celebrate a bachelor party for their friend Doug. The only problem is that they lost Doug and can't remember anything from the night before. The movie stars Ed Helms (Monsters Vs. Aliens, Semi-Pro) as Stu, Zack Galifianakis (What Happens In Vegas, Corky Ramano) as the semi-retarded Alan, Bradley Cooper (Yes man, Wedding Crashers) as the teacher Phil, and Justin Bartha (Failure To Launch, National Treasure: Book Of Secrets) as the aforementioned Lost Doug. The movie, no secret, has some cameos in it and the one I know your interested in knowing about is Iron Mike Tyson. I thought he was absolutely terrific and can't wait to see if he does anything else. The movie also features a still hot Heather Graham, Ken Jeong (Role Models, Knocked Up), Mike Epps (Next Friday, Friday After Next), Rob Riggle (Talladega Nights, Step Brothers), and Matt Walsh (Old School, Role Models) as a doctor. So go out and see it because it starts off a little slow but it gets better as the movie goes along. See if they can find Doug in time for his wedding. Four Stars out of Five

Fired Up (2009)

I will tell you that I wasn't expecting much out of this movie other than the fact that it's targeted towards teens and maybe I'm just too old now. But I actually enjoyed watching this movie and thought it was actually kind of funny. It stars Eric Christian Olsen (Beerfest, Not Another Teen Movie) and Nicholas D'Agosto (Extreme Movie, Drive Thru) as two best friends Nick and Shawn, who are football players. All they want to do is get a piece of tail all the time. So, they decide to join cheerleader camp just to do that. The only problem is that Shawn is falling in love with the team captain Carly, who is played by Sarah Roemer (Disturbia, The Grudge 2) and she actually is dating a total idiot by the name of Dr. Rick (Played By David Walton). What is Shawn going to do? Well, rent it yourself and find out for yourself. The very hot Molly Sims stars in this movie as well. Three Stars Out of Five only because I was very impressed by Eric Christian Olsen.

Gran Torino (2008)

I rented this movie expecting a lot out of Clint Eastwood and believe the fact that I was not disappointed. It seems that a lot of his movies have sad twists at the end of them. I loved Million Dollar Baby and could not wait to see this movie. Eastwood plays Walt Kowalski, a Korean war veteran who recently lost his wife and is a little bitter about life. He has these Koreans that move next door and immediately we see that he does not care for them. In fact, he is pretty racist and makes remarks towards them through out the whole movie. It's not until we see the character of Tao, who is played by Bee Vang and his sister Sue, who is played by Ahney Her that we see a different side of Walt. Both are making their acting debuts in this movie and it is Tao who makes the critical decision by trying to steal Walt's 1972 Gran Torino, that they interact. Tao is a very cowardly person, who is told constantly what to do by his sister and according to Walt, "has no balls." It is here that Sue begins interacting with Walt and becoming his friend that Walt decides to take Tao under his wing by showing him what it means to be a man by means of tough love. He also saves Tao from his cousin who is a gang member and the reason Tao tried to steal the car. He begins a war against these gangs that will affect their lives. Other great characters in this movie is the priest who is played by Christopher Carley (Lions For Lambs) who tries constantly to get Walt to come to confession, but almost never succeeds and Walt always knows how to cut him down to size in a good way. All of those characters above learn valuable lessons in life from Walt and as well they teach Walt something about himself. The movie also stars Brian Haley (Little Giants, The Departed), Geraldine Hughes (Rocky Balboa, Duplex), Dreama Walker (Sex And The City Movie, Whereever You Are), and Brian Howe (Evan Almighty, The Pursuit Of Happyness) as Walt's immediate family. The movie also features John Carroll Lynch (Zodiac, Gothika) as Walt's barber as well. Clint Eastwood is the one of the best actors of the 20Th century and just might be a very great director as well. Four Stars Out Of Five

Valkyrie (2008)

I saw this movie in the theatres back when it came out in December and I had not yet created a blog for movie reviews. With that being said the movie came out on DVD not too long ago and I shall review it now. The movie as you all know stars Tom Cruise (Top Gun, Mission Impossible) as Col. Claus Von Stauffenberg, a man whose eye and fingers were amputated during an ambush. That is why we see him with an eye patch in the commercials. He is a soldier of the Nazi army and is sick and tired of Adolf Hitler (played by David Bamber) and decides to organize a assassination attempt on him. He is joined by some of the best British actors of all time and they are Terrence Stamp (Get Smart, Superman II) as Ludwig Beck, Eddie Izzard (Oceans 12 & 13, Across The Universe) as General Erich Fellgiebel, Kenneth Branagh (Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, Hamlet) as Major General Henning Von Tresckow, Bill Nighly (The Underworld Series, Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 & 3) as General Friedrich Olbricht, and last but not least Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins, The Exorcism Of Emily Rose) as the very famous General Frierich Fromm. Together, these guys make this movie a very memorable one and if your looking for lots of action, than this isn't for you. I love history and this movie gives you a piece of history that I didn't know about. This movie to me, is one of those that keeps you on the edge saying, "Are they going to get away with it or not?" I also have one thing to say about Mr. Cruise and it's whether you think he's a weirdo or not, he is still a great actor. Three and the Half Stars out of Five

Defiance (2008)

A great story of the will of a people to live even under the most of extreme circumstances. This movie follows a group of Jews who were forced to refuge in the Belarusian forests. There, they built a village and had to try to survive even under heavy attack from the Nazis. The Follows a group of brothers played by Daniel Craig (Munich, Quantum Of Solace), Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Manchurian Candidate), and Jamie Bell (Jumper, King Kong) as guys who were trying to escape themselves and they run into all the rest of the runaways and decide to help. They also run into the Soviet Red Army and decide to help them out as well by joining their cause in hope of freedom. This movie is truly captivating and you become astonished at the will these people have to survive. The unordinary circumstances with death, disease, sickness, and the Nazis these people face that lets you know right now you don't have it bad. Believe me, you have the freedom to watch this DVD as we speak. The men do not only do a fantastic job in this movie , but three women are worthy of mention. They are Alexa Davalos (Chronicles Of Riddick, The Mist), an unknown Mia Wasikowska, and European actress Iben Hjejle. I want you to remember those names for the future. I believe this movie is better than Valkyrie if you are looking for action. But they are both great movies and I rate this movie Four and the Half Stars out of Five only because Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan are still my Five Star rated World War II movies.

Crank: High Voltage (2009)

For those of you who were fans of Jason Statham or maybe even the first Crank movie might be a little disappointed unless your into overly excessive use of pointless imagery. This movie must have been targeted for high school kids because I might of thought that this stuff was awesome in the ninth grade. The action is still great and believe me guys, your going to be holding your package a lot during this movie. Just take my word for it and girls if you have breast implants this movie might effect you. So, to sum it up , Stathams's character gets his heart stolen and he has a limited amount of time to get it back before he dies. This movie stars the usual cast of characters from the first one besides Statham. The movie stars the beautiful Amy Smart (Crank, Varsity Blues), country music star Dwight Yoakam (Crank, Wedding Crashers) as Doc Miles, and Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite, Crank) as a Venus the twin brother of Kaylo. It also stars Clifton Collins Jr. (Tigerland, The Rules Of Atraction), Corey Haim (The Two Coreys), and David Carradine (The Kill Bill Movies, Kung Fu). It also features cameos from Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, UFC Fighter Keith Jardine, and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell as Chev Chelios's Mom. So go out and rent it when it does become available because I know I'm a little late with this but it's worth it. Three Stars Out Of Five

Anaconda 4: Trail Of Blood (2009)

I have no idea why I rented this movie to be honest with you. I was renting Defiance and the place I rented it from had a promotion of rent 1, get 1 free and I had to pick something to go with it and they didn't have the new Steven Segal movie. I liked the first two Anaconda movies because the snakes looked so real and I hate CG snakes. Plus, this movie had a bunch of no talent actors except for three people and like I said, the snake looked so fake. so don't waste your time on this one because it's like every other movie. You know, their looking for something and they realize a giant snake is about to kill all of them. That is basically what it is about. One Star out of Five.

Paul Blart Mall Cop (2009)

Before I watched this film, I wondered just how good it would be, but I must say that i thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was produced by Happy Gilmore Productions, which usually means that Adam Sandler has something to do what is made and it's usually a guarantee that it's a good one. So Kevin James stars as our hypoglycemic, failure, and ridiculed mall cop Paul Blart who believes his job is to serve and protect. He falls in love with Jayma Mays (Epic Movie, Red Eye) who plays Amy, a wig salesman. He just can't muster the guts to ask her out. Then, the mall gets taken over by one of it's own and it's up to Paul Blart to save the day. This movie stars the usual suspects of Happy Gilmore guys like Allen Covert (Grandma's Boy, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry) and Eric Avari (Mr. Deeds, Planet Of The Apes). It also stars Keir O'Donnell (What We Do Is Secret, Patriotville) as a formidable opponent for Mr. Blart. So go out and rent this movie cause if you have a sense of humor, you'll laugh. Three and the Half Stars out of Five
