Twilight (2008)

I almost promised myself that I would never watch this movie because I didn't believe in a vampire movie being entirely a love story. I stand corrected in the fact that it actually was a pretty good story minus the over emphasis on the love scenes between Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson). Bella is moving from her mom's house to her dad's in a town called Forks, Washington. The whole rest of the movie is her struggling to get Edward to accept her and be her boyfriend pretty much, but Edward struggles with the fact of being a vampire even though he loves Bella. The only good action is towards the end of the movie as Edward battles a vampire whose been killing residents of Fork named James (Pandorum's Cam Gigandet), who is targeting Bella so he could eat her. You see Edward's family is hiding in Fork and James presents a problem for them as they don't want to be discovered. The one part I would've left out is Edward and his family play baseball, very corny and stupid. Otherwise, I enjoyed the movie and can't wait to see New Moon. The movie also stars Peter Facinelli (Nurse Jackie) as Edward's Dad Dr. Cullen, Billy Burke (Ladder 49) as Bella's dad Charlie, Ashley Greene (Otis) as Alice, and Taylor Lautner (Cheaper By The Dozen 2)as Jacob Black

They Live (1988)

This is a movie from the man who brought you one of the greatest horror movies of all time in Halloween, the man that made Kurt Russell bad ass in Escape From New York, and now John Carpenter brings you the horror/Sci-Fi classic in They Live which features WWE hall of famer Roddy Piper. Piper stars as a drifter named Nada, who after putting on a pair of sunglasses discovers that certain people look weird. In fact, he figures out that their aliens who are controlling everything in the world. He tries to convince Frank (Keith David), another guy down on his luck in California about the aliens and eventually does. Now, it's up to them to try and save the world and expose the aliens so people will wake up and believe them. This movie is a classic and I enjoy it every time I watch it. It also stars George "Buck" Wallace (Pumpkinhead), Peter Jason (Seabiscuit), and Sy Richardson (Dead Man Walking) as the simply put Black Revolutionary. Three Stars Out Of Five because I believe Roddy Pipers acting chops were up to par in this film and John Carpenter is a visionary.

Suicide Kings (1997)

This was an excellent who dunnit type of movie and not to mention the great Christopher Walken (King Of New York) stars in it. This is a movie about four friends that kidnap a foprmer mobster for ransom to save a friends sister. The friends Avery (Henry Thomas), Max ( Sean Patrick Flannery), Brett (Jay Mohr), and TK (Jeremy Sisto) kidnap Mr. Barret (Walken) in order to save Avery's sister Elise (Laura Harris) whose been kidnapped herself. Things are going their way until Barrett finds out that one of them was in on the kidnapping all along. Now, he's trying to figure out who was in on it before he ends up dying from losing too much blood. one of the real treats of this film was comedian Denis Leary (Rescue Me), who plays sort of Barrett's wise guy/driver. he is a real treat through out the whole movie as a tight ass but very sympathetic towards women type of guy. The movie also stars Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond), Laura San Giacomo (Pretty Woman), and Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) as Ira, a poor nerd who gets used by the guys for his house to keep Walken hostage. Zack And Miri Make A Porno (2008)

From the twisted, sick, and very funny mind of the man that brought classics like Mallrats, Dogma, etc is Kevin Smith comes this very hilarious movie about two friends who weren't the most popular in high school, but when desperate times call for desperate measures they decide to make a porno. It stars Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express) as Zack and Elizabeth Banks (Role Models) as Miri, the aforementioned losers. Things start to get shut off in their apartment when Zack forgets to pay the bills. Their so desperate that Zack gets the bright idea from Miri to make a porno and believe me it gets funny. The movie also stars Jason Mewes (Clerks) as Lester who is one of the actors in the porn, a very funny Craig Robinson (Pineapple Express) as Delaney, a guy who works with Zack that provides the money for the porn, another very funny man Gerry Bednob (The 40 Year Old Virgin) as Zack and Delaneys boss, Justin Long (Waiting) as gay porn star Brandon, Jeff Anderson (Clerks 1 & 2) as their camera man, as well as former porn star turned actress Traci Lords and real life porn star Katie Morgan. The movie even features a cameo by Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) as someone Miri had a crush on in high school but is dating the gay porn star. I loved the film and thought it was hilarious, but I wouldn't let your kids watch this film. Three Stars Out Of Five

Deadline (2009)

I rented this because of a couple of reasons and you may think that they are sad reasons, but I make my decisions based on these sometimes. I rented it one because Brittany Murphy starred in it, but also because my video store clerk told me that she was ordered to pull it off the shelf because of the cover. The cover features Brittany sprawled out in the bath tub almost like she is dead and subsequently that's how she was found by her mother. So out of respect for her, I will not place the movie poster on this entry. Rather, I replaced the movie poster with a scene from the movie. She plays a screenwriter named Alice who is stressed out about making a deadline. Her girlfriend (Tammy Blanchard) is going to the city for a week and so Alice decides to go this house in the middle of nowhere provided by her producer. She starts to discover weird things are happening in this house like as if it had ghosts. She discovers some tapes left behind by a couple that had lived there once. In the tapes, Alice sees that David (Marc Blucas) is becoming rather suspicious that his wife Lucy (Thora Birch) is cheating on her. Things get all whacked out as the movie goes on. I will say that the movie was okay and at times a little repetitive of what has already been done in the genre. So, my grade may seems a little harsh, but that's what happens when a little buzz is created. Two and The Half Stars Out Of Five

Uptown Girls (2003)

You are all probably wondering why I keep reviewing Brittany Murphy (8 Mile, Spun) movies and that's because I'm doing a Brittany Murphy tribute video so I'm watching them for clips to use. Brittany stars as Molly Gunn, the daughter of a rock star who passed away when she was young and she unfortunately never grew up. The funny part is that she gets a job as a nanny taking care of Heather Locklear's daughter Ray (Dakota Fanning) who happens to act like an adult. The two clash on constant occasion, but soon grow to become best friends. Molly also deals with a lot of issues in her life with a up and coming rock star who dumps her, to her latest misfortunes of not having any money because of an accountant who took it all from her. This was actually a pretty good flick and it also stars Donald Faison (Clueless), Marley Shelton (Grindhouse), and Jesse Spencer (House M.D.) as Neal. I give it Three Stars Out Of Five because I think this is a total chick flick

Spun (2002)

This is one of the craziest movies I have seen and my video store clerk told me it's in the same sort of ballpark as Requiem For A Dream. A guy named Ross (Jason Schwartzman), who's a speed freak goes on a wild 3 day fiasco by meeting some people that change his life forever. He goes to his dealer Spider Mike's (John Leguizamo) house on day one and meets fellow speed freaks Frisbee (Almost Famous star Patrick Fugit), Cookie (Mena Suvari), and a stripper who is happening to be going out with the guy who makes the speed named Nikki (The Late Brittany Murphy). Nikki ends up bringing Ross to see the man who calls himself "The Cook" (Mickey Rourke) and he ends up working for him. Crazy events start to happen and at times the movie just gets real weird. I definitely enjoyed the cinematography in this movie with the weird camera shakes and the every time they snort the speed, it gives a close up of their pupils dilating. If your into this kind of stuff, then this movie is for you. The movie also stars Deborah Harry (Lead Singer Of Blondie) as Ross's dike neighbor, Eric Roberts (The Best Of The Best) as the Cooks flamboyantly gay boss, and features cameos by Judas Priest front man Rob Halford as a gay porn shop clerk, Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan as a doctor, Josh Peck (Drake And Josh) as a kid who gets turned down by Spider Mike, and porn star Ron Jeremy as a bartender. Clueless (1995)

This is the movie that started it all, all those annoying sayings like as if and whatever. It was Alicia Silverstone's shining moment in her career when she stopped being known as the chick in the Aerosmith videos. This movie also semi launched the career of Donald Faison who went on to star on the hit comedy Scrubs, but that's not all! This movie helped launch the career of superstars Paul Rudd (I Love You! Man) and the late Brittany Murphy. It's a movie about a rich girl from Beverly Hills named Cher (Silverstone), who has everything she could ever want. She is a genuine matchmaker and makeover specialist as she takes it upon herself to change Tai (Murphy), a jersey girl who moves to Beverly Hills in desperate need of a makeover. Things start to get personal for Cher as nothing is going her way as Tai starts to gain popularity and decides to go after her step brother Josh (Rudd). Unfortunately, Silverstone never recovered in her career and never really was able to top this movie. Like I had said before, while things were not good for her, they were for Rudd and Murphy. 8 Mile (2002)

It's the movie that further solidified Eminem's career as the top MC and brought back Brittany Murphy's (Clueless) career. Consider this movie the rap version of Rockstar featuring Mark Walhberg and the movie that made 50 Cent want to make a movie. It's about a kid living inside the 8 mile road trailer parks who dreams of being a MC to support his little sister Lily and hopefully get out of Detroit. He has to deal with a lot from a slutty mother played by Kim Basinger (The Perfect Getaway) and her boyfriend Greg (Michael Shannon) who graduated wit Rabbit (Eminem). After being humiliated by freezing up on a battle, Rabbit vows to get better and things start to look up when he meets Alex (Murphy) and he starts to win battles. I thought this movie was an absolute classic and it sort of reflects Eminem's real story of his life and how he became who he was. You also have to know that this was the first of it's kind for the Hip Hop genre and blew away all expectations. The movie also stars Mekhi Phifer (O), Omar Benson Miller (The Express), and Evan Jones (The Book Of Eli) as Eminem's crew, and a powerful performance as well from Anthony Mackie (We Are Marshall) as a rival MC Papa Doc. I give this Four Stars Out Of Five

Pandorum (2009)

This movie is the reason I believe that science fiction can be brilliant and just the idea behind the movie is excellent. All of earth's resources have been depleted in what I believe they said was the year 2174. In that year, we launched a ship into space to travel to a planet we discovered was like earth called Tanis. Think of the ship being a modern day Noah's Arc in that everything we need to survive is on the new planet is on this ship. Something goes tragically wrong and one member of the crew wakes up and suffers from temporary memory loss. He discovers his name is Bower (Ben Foster of Alpha Dog) and he doesn't know where he is, how long he's been asleep in the hyper sleep chamber, and what the hell is after him. Another soon wakes up by the name Payton (Dennis Quaid) and soon tries to help out Bower get to the reactor to restore the ship. On his way, he discovers a super race of humans that evolved into a cannibalistic race and a couple of survivors on the way. Can Bower and his new set of friends (Mixed Martial Artist Cung Le and Antje Traue) fix the reactor to restore what the ship was meant to do (establish new Earth). You'll discover in the movie what Pandorum is and it's effect on the crew, it's a great suspenseful, thrill ride and I give it Three And The Half Stars Out Of Five

Stan Helsing (2009)

This is brought to you by one of the producers of Scary Movie and believe me it's not as good as Scary Movie. It's not a bad movie, but some of the content could have been done differently. The movie is about a guy named Stan Helsing (Steve Howey), who works at a video store and on one Halloween tries to go to a party with his friends until their trapped in a gated community being haunted by 6 horror movie icons in Fweddy (Ben Cotton), Pleatherface (Twan Holliday), Michael Crier (Lee Tichon), Mason (Ken Kirzinger), Needlehead (Charles Zuckermann), and Lucky (Jeff Gulka). Stan soon finds out that he is a descendant of the famous Van Helsing and it is up to him to save his friends Teddy (SNL's Keenan Thompson), Nadine (Diora Baird), and Mia (Desi Lydic) and the rest of the townspeople including a cross dressing Leslie Nielsen from the monsters. Their were some very funny scenes but the movie is sort of forgettable. I wouldn't recommend this for children because of the sexual content which includes Mia getting off by a rat (long story, sort of not what you must be thinking). Two Stars Out Of Five

Gomorrah (2008)

Gomorrah is an Italian movie about five people whose lives are involved some way shape or form in the mafia. This is an inside look at the modern day Italian Mafia in Scampia, which is a suburb of Naples. The people it follows is Don Ciro (Gianfelice Imparato), who is a very skittish and timid middle man that delivers money to families whose members are in prison. Toto (Salvatore Abruzzese) a young grocery clerk who sees some guys get busted and leave some things behind and Toto returns in exchange for being accepted by one family. Roberto (Carmine Paternoster)is a young adult, who works in the toxic waste management business. His boss dumps toxic waste into quarries and poor Roberto is having second thoughts about whether what he is doing is right. Pasquale (Salvatore Cantalupo)is a designer who secretly decides to help out a Chinese garment company in secret because they are competing with the camorra (Mafia). Finally, we have Marco (Marco Macor) and Ciro (Ciro Petrone), a couple of teenage idiots that think their Scarface and decide they're going to try and rip off the mob. The movie starts off very slowly, but that's only because the story is very important to this movie. The movie starts off right away with some whacking and finishes that way as well. This is definitely not your typical mafia movie that your used to, but it passes. Three and the Half Stars Out of Five

Office Space (1999)

This movie is from the genius that brought King Of The Hill and Beavis & Butthead and brings you this timeless classic about a guy in a cubicle that says screw the system. Ron Livingston (44 Minutes) plays Peter Gibbons, a regular guy with big dream beyond his cubicle at a lame software company who decides one day that enough is enough. Peter and his friends Michael Bolton (David Herman) and Samir (Ajay Naidu) decide their going to rip off the company after they find out that their jobs are gone and Peter get a promotion for not showing up to work. Peter sees a hypnotist and decides that he's no longer going to care about his stupid job. So, he starts to slack off, but no matter what he does to piss off his boss Lumbergh (Gary Cole), consultants "The Bobs" (Paul Wilson and John C. McGinley) feel Peter is perfect for upper management. This movie sort of shows why working behind a cubicle is like death and why you should live life to the fullest. The movie also stars Jennifer Aniston (He's Just Not That Into You) as Peter's new girlfriend Joanna, the very funny Diedrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show)as Peter's redneck next door neighbor, and Stephen Root (Dodgeball) as the very weird but misunderstood Milton. This movie is a classic and deserves Four Stars Out Of Five

The Monster Movie Awards

Coming soon to the blog site I will name the nominees for different categories like Horror movie of the year, Action Movie Of The Year, and the special ones: Actor Of The Decade and Actress Of The Decade. So stay tuned for the nominees.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (2009)

I finally made myself watch this for the purpose of The Monster Movie Awards. Things are different for our boy her Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf), his girlfriend Mikaela (Megan Fox) and our favorite team of Autobots (Optimus Prime, Bumble Bee, Iron Hide, and some new autobots Wheelie and Skids-twins) in this sequel. Sam is going off to college and he is trying to forget what happened and move on with his life and the Autobots and a special division in the Army are trying to get rid of what is left in the world of the Decepticons. Until, the decepticons discover that Sam has absorbed the secrets of an ancient weapon and it's whereabouts that is vital to the alien robot race. Now they will stop at nothing to atrieve him and find the key to the weapon. Another problem for the autobots is that Optimus Prime is dead and a robot that they call the Fallen can only be defeated by a Prime. What will Sam and the rest of them do and How will the earth survive. The usual suspects are back in Josh Duhamel (Turistas) and Tyrese Gibson as the Two Army guys Lennox and Epps, John Turturro (Secret Window) as the crazy sector 7 guy Simmons, Kevin Dunn (Vicky Christina Barcelona) and Julie White (Monsters Vs Aliens) as Sam's parents, and some hot newcomers like Isabel Lucas in her first role as a college student/Deadly Decepticon. I give the movie Four Stars Out Of Five for the action sequences cause Michael Bay doesn't disappoint in that department.

Disaster! The Movie (2005)

If you were to look this up, it says that it is a spoof of Disaster movies, but I believe after watching it that it's mostly a spoof of the movie Armageddon which had starred Ben Affleck and Bruce Willis. It only spoofs Twister and Volcano to name a few in the beginning of the movie. Basically, a giant spaceroid is about to hit Earth and kill everyone unless Harry Bottoms (Voiced by Jim Cummings) and his motley crew (No pun intended since Motley Crue has a part in the film) can save the earth. Harry Bottoms is the Bruce Willis character, while his crew aptly named V.D. Johnson (Steve Mackall) is Ben Affleck, Sandy Mellons (Jeanie Elias) is Liv Tyler (Sandy is also Harry's Daughter whose in love with V.D.), Hanukah Jones (Heather Capps)a ditsy rocket scientist, Donkey Dixon (Issac C. Singleton Jr.) who happens to moonlight as a porn star, Jean-Paul Bidet (Danny Mann) a Frenchman with too much gas, and Guy Kirk (also voiced by Jim Cummings) rounds out the crew. They face different challenges while trying to save the planet like a giant space monkey, a irritable gay robot, and Guy Kirk being beaten so badly he is mentally challenged. I enjoyed the movie a lot, but I wouldn't recommend for kids for lots of vulgarity and sexual suggestions in the film. Three stars out of Five

Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story (2005)

Family Guy was cancelled for years, so Seth MacFarlane decided to make a movie centered around Stewie Griffin, the baby of the family that wants to kill Lois. The usual suspects are here providing voices like Seth Green and Mila Kunis as well as some guest voices in this Film by Will Sasso, Drew Barrymore, Phil LaMarr (Mad TV), Ron Livingston (Office Space), Beverly Hills 90210 alums Jason Priestley, Jenny Garth, and Tori Spelling, Joy Behar (The View), and Michael Clark Duncan (Green Mile). So, the movie is divided into three parts that all intersect with each other in the film. The first one deals with Stewie being jealous of a another baby while he takes swimming lessons. Stewie has a near death experience and decides he has to be nice to everyone because he didn't like hell. The second part deals with Stewie and Brian going on a cross country trip to find the guy he saw on TV that he thought was his real father in San Fransisco. The third part he discovers that it's him in the future and he doesn't like how his future is going so he decides to help out his older self get laid. I thought this was very funny and as always you have to love the constant jabs at mainstream America that Seth takes. This movie has references to Rosanne, Star Wars, Star Trek, and much more, Four Stars Out Of Five

54 (1998)

Ryan Phillipe (Cruel Intentions) stars as Shane, a young Jersey kid who wants to escape Jersey for fame and tells the story of Studio 54 through his eyes. This movie is about all the debauchery, decadence, and the demise of the club and disco. The movie has an all star cast to boot with Selma Hayek (Desperado) and Breckin Meyer (Clueless) as Anita and Greg Randazzo, a couple that becomes Shane's surrogate parents while he lives in Manhattan, Mike Myers (Shrek) as Steve Rubell, one of the infamous club owners, Neve Campbell (Scream) as Julie Black, a soap actress using 54 to get into Hollywood, and Sela Ward (Day After Tomorrow) as a record executive Billie Auster. We always heard about the Drugs and debauchery that happened in 54 and now we finally get to see something. Phillipe and Hayek do not disappoint in this film and Mike Myers does a terrific job as the weird and eccentric Rubell. Three Stars Out Of Five

Darkness Falls (2003)

In horror, they've done it all by having killer leprechauns, killer clowns, a guy that kills on every Friday the 13Th, killer Santa Claus, a guy that kills on Halloween, but wait we haven't had a killer tooth fairy, have we? That is what this movie is about, a kid reads about a legend that was created to scare little kids to sleep by making a tooth fairy that comes to get you when you lose you last tooth. So one night, Kyle Walsh (Joshua Anderson plays young Kyle) wakes and runs into the light because he looked at the tooth fairy and now she wants to kill him. The only problem is that she kills his mom and everyone thinks he did it. So, Kyle goes away for a long time until he (Chaney Kley plays older Kyle) gets a call one day from an old childhood friend named Caitlin (Emma Caulfield) about her little brother (Lee Cormie) being in the hospital because he thinks he sees the Tooth Fairy and he does, but nobody will listen. Now, the tooth fairy is not only after her little brother but she sights her sights on Kyle and the whole town. The movie is okay and the story is okay. I remember waiting till this came out on video to see it. The movie also stars a young Emily Browning (Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events) as the young version of Caitlin. Gladiator (1992)

This is a movie about two inner city kids, a white Irish kid named Tommy Riley (James Marshall) and Black kid Abraham Lincoln Haines (Cuba Gooding Jr.) are rivals in school because of race issues. But they are forced to look away from the issue as both have to rise above a real, scumbag boxing promoter Jimmy Horn (Brian Dennehy) as both of them fight their way through it in an underground boxing promotion. Tommy is forced to fight because of his father's (John Heard) gambling problems and Lincoln because of his girlfriend and child. The problem is some believe Tommy shouldn't fight because he is a very bright kid despite living in the south side of Chicago. If you like boxing movies like Rocky and Price Of Glory (which stars Jon Seda, who also stars in this film) then you might enjoy this one. You have to remember not to confuse this one with the Russel Crowe film of the same name. This movie has some great fight action and some blood and a decent story to go along with it. I give it Two And The Half Stars Out Of Five

Mr. Woodcock (2007)

I like watching this movie every time it's on the tube, but I will say that this isn't Sean William Scott's (American Pie) best movie. I do think however, that Billy Bob Thorton (Eagle Eye) and Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise) do an excellent job in this movie. The movie is about John Farley (Scott) a kid that was tormented by the infamous PE teacher Mr. Woodcock (Thorton), leaves and totally changes himself and writes a book. He's on his way to the according to his agent (played By SNL alum and Boston native Amy Poehler). Things are going so well for Farley that he even finds out that his old town is about to honor him because of the book. Things go wrong for him when he finds out this mom (Sarandon) is dating Mr. Woodcock. Now, John is on a mission to prove to his mom that Woodcock is the wrong guy for her and with help from his buddy Nedderman (Ethan Suplee) he wont stop till he proves it to his poor mom. The movie features cameos by Tyra Banks, M.C. Gainey (Con Air) as a barber, Mellisa Sagemiller (Soul Survivors) as Farley's new girlfriend, and Jacob Davich (The Adventures Of Shark Boy and Lava Girl 3-D) as Neddermans brother. Like I said, it's not one of Scott's best roles but not every person wants to continue to play Stifler. Two and The Half Stars Out Of Five

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

This is the original Tobe Hooper classic about a group of college kids driving in Texas that end up with the wrong family after them. If you like lots of blood and guts, then watch the remake but if you want to see a classic that literally had a small budget and would forever be imprinted in our brains, then this is it. The five teens Sally (Marilyn Burns), her annoying brother Franklin (Paul A. Partain), Kirk (William Vail), Jerry (Allen Danziger), and Pam (Teri McMinn) are driving through Texas because of family issues when they encounter The hitchiker (Edwin Neal) who would later be known to fans as Chop Top in the sequel. It all goes down hill from there for the gang as they kick him out and one by one they encounter Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen) as well as the rest of his family, who picks them off one by one with their butcher tools and trusty chainsaw. This movie still has the magic to scare people not to go to Texas and I love it. A fun fact for you is that the character of Leatherface is loosely based on real life Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein. So, don't totally believe people when they tell you it's a true story. Four Stars Out Of Five

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret Of The Ooze (1991)

I remember seeing this in the movie theatres back in 1991 and I was totally hooked on these mutant turtles Donatello (Leif Tilden), Michaelangelo (Michelan Sisti), Leonardo (Mark Caso), Raphael (Kenn Scott), and their Master Splinter (Kevin Clash) a giant talking rat. The turtles have just survived a battle with Shredder (Francois Chau) and the foot clan and are now living in Reporter April O'Neil's (Paige Turco) apartment because their original dwelling was compromised. The only problem is that Shredder has returned and want revenge against the Ninja Turtles and will go to any length to achieve it. Meanwhile, TGRI, a chemical company that produced the ooze that made the ninja turtles what they are is trying to recover any canisters that may be still be out there until Shredder gets his hands on one. Shredder than comes up with a master plan to utilize the ooze to seek his revenge on the turtles by mutating some animals of his own. The movie also stars David Warner (My Best Friend Is A Vampire) as Professor Jordan Perry, Ernie Reyes Jr. (Redline) as Keno, and former WWE superstar and current TNA superstar Kevin Nash as super Shredder. I loved this movie and give it Three And The Half Stars Out Of Five because of the corny Vanilla Ice having a cameo in this movie.

Death Wish 4: The Crackdown (1987)

When I found out Death Wish 4 was on ION television, I had to watch it because of one man named Charles Bronson (The Dirty Dozen). He stars once again as Paul Kersey, a vigilante on the loose in California and now a legend in retirement until something goes wrong. This time, Paul's girlfriend Karen's (Kay Lenz) daughter Erika (Dana Barron) dies from a cocaine overdose. So, Paul decides to declare war against two rival drug families in southern California. It's going to be risky but Paul Kersey is the man to do it. He gets information from a guy who seems to be just as passionate about getting rid of these scum as Paul does until Paul is double crossed by him as well. This movie has it all if your into tons of kills, guns, and Charles Bronson. I still liked Death Wish 1 and 2 better than this one, but it wasn't bad. Two and The Half Stars Out Of Five

50 Dead Men Walking (2008)

This is the captivating true story of Martin (Jim Sturgess), a Irish Catholic street punk who decides to infiltrate the IRA back in 1988. This movie can be graphic at times but it shows you the fight between the Unionists and the Republicans and how unwilling their were to cooperate with each other in Northern Ireland. Martin goes through a lot of emotions as he's trying to be careful not to give himself up. It was a sad war where lots of innocent people died, but the sacrifice that Martin made and it was a big sacrifice saved many. The movie also stars Ben Kingsley as a unionist that convinced Martin to become an informant, and Rose McGowan as the unions big target Grace. I would've done without Rose and her sad attempt at an Irish accent but oh well the movie was still very good. Three and The Half Stars Out of Five

The Final Destination (2009)

Let's recap all the other Final Destinations before I review this one. In the first one, One kid has a premonition that the plane is going to crash and it does. The second one, a girl has a premonition that a car crash is going to happen and it does. The third one, a girl has a premonition that the roller coaster ride is going to derail and kill everyone on it and it does. Now, what could they do in this one to top all the other ones. Let's bring it to a Nascar race and you know what, they should have done this earlier because it works with the theme. Why do we as people watch Nascar? it's not because of the actual racing, but because we are waiting for all the crashes. You almost get a guarantee with Nascar that there will be one or two. That is the same reason we watch and are obsessed with Final Destination. We watch it for the inventive kill scenes that are always a guarantee. Well in this one, Nick (Bobby Campo) has a premonition that everyone in his section will die because the place is falling apart and a crash will happen that kills a lot of people. So, he saves his girlfriend Lori (Shantel VanSanten), his friend Hunt (Nick Zano), his girlfriend Janet (Haley Webb), a security guard named George (Bubba Shrimp himself Mykelti Williamson) and some more people. Now it's a race against time to try and figure out who dies next and who can they save to maybe break the chain forever. The kill scenes in the beginning are inventive and then some are very familiar but just re-invented in a different form. That was sadly the only thing that bothered me about it was the typical kill scenes we've seen before. It's a great addition to the Final Destination family but hopefully the last one. The Marine 2 (2009)

This was a straight to video release and I can sort of see why. It wasn't bad at all and quite frankly I thought Ted DiBiase Jr. (WWE Superstar) did a pretty decent job. He's a little ways away from catching up to his predecessor John Cena, but he's almost there. The movie is about a Marine Recon named Joe (DiBiase) who comes home from a mission to see his lovely wife played by Lara Cox (a glorified TV and straight to video actress) who works for a very rich man who is about to open a resort in southeast Asia. The only problem is that the resort is taken over by terrorists and it's up to Joe to save the day and his wife. At first, I thought that was a little weak for an idea but it sort of made sense later on in the film. Like I said, there is a reason why it's straight to video because it wouldn't stand a chance in the theatres. The movie also stars Michael Rooker (The Bone Collector) as an ex-army man who is torn between whether he is a hero or not when it comes to joining Joe on the fight. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs (2009)

It's great having nephews that are young enough because I get an excuse to rent these types of movies. I will say that this was an amazing movie and that I recommend this to anyone with children. The movie is about Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) a nerd, that all he wanted was for everyone to love his inventions. His town was built on the idea of sardines, but things start to look grim when nobody in the world liked sardines anymore. To solve the crisis, Flint decides to build an invention that rains food. He meets a reporter along the way named Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) a former nerd who also loves Flints invention and she finds her niche as a weather reporter. The only problem is that the whole town loves it too and they start to over order everything and the machine goes out of control. Now it's up to Flint and Sam to save the day and stop the machine. This movie has a lot of hilarious scenes in it and it's very enjoyable to watch. I personally loved the character of Steve (Voiced by Doogie Howser himself Neil Patrick Harris), a monkey that has one of Flints inventions that allows you to hear his all of his thoughts. The movie also features James Caan (The Godfather) as Flints Dad, Mr. T (The A-team) as a policeman, Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead) as the Mayor, Al Roker as a reporter, and Andy Samberg (SNL Alum) as Baby Brent. I give this movie Four Stars Out Of Five

Sherlock Holmes (2009)

I wasn't completely disappointed with the movie, I did enjoy it at times and I will tell you why. I thought Robert Downey Jr. (Charlie Bartlett) did a wonderful job playing a very unorthodox private eye and Jude Law (Enemy At The Gates) was also terrific as the very sane and cautious Watson. Amy Adams was terrific as the girl that Holmes is obsessed with and let's manipulate his every move, Ms. Irene Adler. Together, all three of them made this movie worth watching even though the movie dragged at times. In the beginning, you see Holmes and Watson solve a case where a Lord by the name of Blackwood is performing black magic. He is sentenced to hang but promises to return from the dead and achieve his master plan. Holmes and Watson, soon discover that he does rise from the dead and it's up to them to figure out what Blackwood is scheming. Mark Strong (Body Of Lies) does a terrefic job as Lord Blackwood as well as Eddie Marsan as Inspector Lestrade. The movie also stars big man Robert Maillet (300), Kelly Reilly (Above Suspicion) as Watson's love interest, and William Hope (Sky Captain and The world of Tomorrow) as Ambassador Standish. The movie does have some great fights and action sequences, but it does drone on at times. Three Stars Out Of Five

Max Payne (2008)

I'm always a little skeptical of video games turned into movies, but I will admit to having enjoyed watching Hitman (Excellent) and I enjoyed this because of to reasons, 1 Mark Wahlberg (Rockstar) and 2. Mila Kunis (That 70's Show). I think Mark is an excellent actor and does a terrific job as cold case detective Max Payne, a man trying to figure out who killed his wife and child. He gets a break when murders start to happen and he is being questioned for being near the people. Mila Kunis stars as Mona, a deadly woman who had just lost her sister and her sister happen to have Max Payne's wallet on her when she died. She tracks down Max Payne and decides to help him out. The movie also stars Beau Bridges (Sidekicks) as BB, the head of security at a pharmaceutical company Max Payne's wife used to work at, Donal Logue (Ghost Rider) as Max's former partner, Chris O'Donnell (Batman & Robin) as Jason Colvin, and the attractive Olga Kurylenko (Hitman)as Mila Kunis's sister. Their is some good special effects and some good action but I would have picked someone different than rapper Ludacris to be in this film. Three Stars Out Of Five

365 Movies in 365 Days

That's right I'm going to try and watch one movie a day for 365 days and write reviews for them. I have already covered January 1st and 2ND. Stay Tuned

Drag Me To Hell (2009)

The only scene that still gets me from this movie is after Christine (Alison Lohman) denies this old woman another extension on her house which is about to get evicted no less. When Christine goes to leave work, the old woman is waiting for her in the parking lot and the fight scene between is amazing. The old woman (Lorna Raver) ends up putting a curse on Christine and she only has three days left to live until the demons come and take her soul. Her boyfriend Clay (Justin Long) is in disbelief over the whole idea of a curse and therefore doesn't really help her. Now it's a race against time for Christine, will she remove the curse or will she be engulfed and dragged to hell. The movie also stars David Paymer (Searching For Bobby Fisher) as Christine's Boss, Chelcie Ross (The Express) and Molly Cheek (American Pie) as Clay's parents respectively. I give it Three Stars Out Of Five because the special effects is where it's at.

9 (2009)

For an animated movie, I didn't think this was too bad. I actually enjoyed watching this movie and think you will as well. The movie is about these dolls that are numbered that live in a world where machines have destroyed humanity completely. One day, number 9 (Elijah Wood) wakes up and finds this strange world and doesn't know what to do with a medallion like object. He discovers the other dolls and soon good things do not follow 9 as it seems he brings trouble every where with him. After placing the medallion into this machine, it starts to take away the souls of the dolls. Now it's up to 9 and the others to save their world of these deadly machines. The movie features the voices of Christopher Plummer (Up) as 1, Martin Landau (Ready To Rumble) as 2, John C. Reilly (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) as 5, Crispin Glover (Back To The Future) as 6, Jennifer Connelly (Labyrinth) as 7 and Fred Tatasciore (Back At The Barnyard) as 8. I give the movie Three Stars Out Of Five

Batman (1966)

I woke up new years day to discover that this movie was playing on HBO. So, I watched it and it's amazing to see what they used for special effects then compared to what we use today. The movie stars Adam West (Family Guy) as Batman and Burt Ward (Batman: The Series) as Robin as they try to unfoil the league of the underworld's plan to dehydrate the world leaders. The league of the underworld is led by Burgess Meredith (Rocky) as The Penguin, Cesar Romero (Oceans Eleven) as the Joker, The Beautiful Lee Meriwether (All My Children) as The Catwoman, and Frank Gorshin (12 Monkeys) as the Riddler. It's a fun movie to watch, but I do have to admit that it is corny at times. You have to remember though that this is the Batman you parents grew up to, not Christian Bale. Three stars out of Five
