Paranormal Activity (2007 & 2009)

IMDB claims that it came out in 2007, but the film wasn't released to everyone until 2009. I have to say out of all the films that have adopted the Blair Witch Trials style camera work and story, this is by far the best one I have ever seen. It might be one of the best horror films to come out in a long time. There are some great moments in this film and some that drag, but it really get's creepy towards the end. The end of the film is the scariest part of the whole film and I won't tell you what it is. The movie is about a couple named Katie (Katie Featherston) and Micah (Micah Sloat) who are experiencing some paranormal activity in their new San Diego home. So, Micah decides to go out and get a camera to record some of it. The only thing is that they've really pissed it off. So go out and rent this because I really recommend it. Four Stars Out Of Five

Jennifer's Body (2009)

I really think that this movie was sort of a big piece of crap. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed watching Meghan Fox, but I'm glad it was rent 1, get 1 free. I thought Amanda Seyfried (Alpha Dog) and Megan Fox (Transformers) did a great job, but overall the whole story was stupid and I expected a lot more out of Diablo Cody (Juno). It was an excuse to exploit how sexy Megan Fox is and if your an adolescent teen, then you didn't get your Joly's off. I would have settled for at least a but shot, but you got nothing. It's the story of how Jennifer was supposed to be sacrificed to Satan by a rock band led by Adam Brody (The OC), but because she lied about being a virgin, she becomes a succubus and starts eating all the boys at the school. Amanda's character Needy suspects her and tries to stop Jennifer from eating anybody else. That is basically the movie. Enjoy, Two Stars Out Of Five

Beer League (2006)

I actually enjoyed watching this movie which you can rent or watch currently on the Movie Channel. It stars a lot of has beens and wannabe actors from Hollywood's past. Artie Lange (The Howard Stern Show) stars as Artie DeVanzo, a slacker who plays on a slow pitch softball league, who because of his mouth got his team into trouble. They need to win in order to stay in the league, but the only problem is that Dennis Mangenelli's (Anthony DeSando) team is the best in the league. Things look as they are about to turn around for Artie, he has the girl Linda (Cara Buono), his best friend Maz's (Ralph Macchio, The Karate Kid) bachelor part to plan for, and the team is Finally winning. The only thing is his jealousy for Dennis gets in the way of everything for him. So, go out and rent it and find out if the team can do it and if Artie will screw everything else up. The Movie also stars Laurie Metcalf (TVs Roseanne) as Artie's mom, Seymour Cassel (Colors) as Dirt, Jim Breuer (Half Baked), and Joe Lo Truglio (Pineapple Express) to name a few. Three Stars Out Of Five

Miami Vice (2006)

I have to say that I wasn't too impressed with this movie and that Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx didn't have the right kind of swagger to replace Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. The other thing that bothered me is that it seemed that they wanted to make a big Hollywood production out of the TV series, but they make you wait till about the movie is almost over before you get any action. The movie is about our favorite Miami PD's Sonny Crockett (Farrell) and Ricardo Tubbs (Foxx) as they try to take down a big drug dealing ring that involves the Latin Americans and the Skinheads. In the meantime, Tubbs is dating one his partners in Trudy (Naomie Harris) and Crockett falls for one that they're investigating in Isabella (Played by the hot Gong Li). Like I said, it's a big love story wrapped with action at the end of it. Great performances as well by John Ortiz (Public Enemies), Ciaran Hinds (The Race To Witch Mountain), and Tom Towles (House Of 1000 Corpses).

Notorious (2009)

This is the compelling story of Christopher Wallace a.k.a Notorious B.I.G. (Played by Jamal Woolard) as he rises from a good kid to street thug to famous and biggest rapper of New York. Along the way you see the trials and tribulations that he goes through from dealing with his first girlfriend's pregnancy to his mom's (Angela Bassett) troubles of being a single black woman to meeting and having a relationship with Lil Kim (Naturi Naughton) and to top it all off dealing with drama from Tupac (Anthony Mackie) being his friend at one time and being his enemy the next. You see the sacrifices he makes as well as the sacrifices his friends make to see Biggie accomplish the dream. This was a great bio pic of a man that died way before his time and the craziness that was the mid 90's in the rap game. The movie also stars Derek Luke (Lions For Lambs) as Puff Daddy, Antonique Smith as his wife Faith Evans (Across The Universe), Sean Ringgold as Suge Knight, Dennis L.A. White (The Brave One) as his best friend Damion "D-Roc" Butler and a great performance from Biggie's actual son Christopher Jordan Wallace as the young Biggie Smalls.

District 9 (2009)

All I have to say is that this is a Monster Movie Awards nominee for best movie 2009. I was very impressed with the story behind this movie. The aliens came to earth and because of not having fuel and starving, they stay on earth. So, the South Africans put them into slums and you see the desperation behind these aliens as they try to live on earth. One day, Wikus Van De Merwe (Sharlto Copley) comes to inspect the slums and inhales some fluid and slowly starts changing into one of them. The whole movie you follow as Wikus has some tough decisions to make; should he help the aliens try to escape or follow his own concerns and try to change the process of turning into an alien because he is a hot commodity as the human race is trying to figure out how to use the alien weaponry that they can't seem to get to work. I seriously recommend this movie. Four And The Half Stars Out Of Five.

Bruno (2009)

What can I say about Bruno? Other than the fact that the movie is an hour and the half of puns on homosexuality. From beginning to end, the movie is scene after scene of Sasha Baron Cohen and his sick sense of humor. Their were some priceless moments in the movie, but overall I felt this movie was a waste of time and not as funny as Borat. Don't waste your time, One Star Out Of Five.

Aliens In The Attic (2009)

I know what your thinking and I'm going to stop you in your tracks because Aliens In The Attic was a great movie. The movie is about the Pearson family who is about to go on vacation to their summer cottage when Aliens invade their attic. Things are boring until Tom (Carter Jenkins, Bad News Bears) and his cousin Jake (Austin Robert Butler of Zoey 101) come across alien life form trying to take over planet Earth. With the help of the other kids in the family, they go to the extreme to try and stop them. At the same time, they're trying to keep it a secret from the parents and it's not an easy task. The movie also stars Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical), Doris Roberts (Raymond's mom in Everybody Loves Raymond), Kevin Nealon (Showtime's Weeds), Andy Richter (Late Night With Conan O'Brien), and Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live Alum). This movie has everything the little ones will enjoy from some action and slapstick humor. Four And The Half Stars Out Of Five

Brittany Murphy R.I.P. (1977-2009)

The world lost a valuable actress to this generation in Brittany Murphy. I practically feel like I grew up with Brittany in a way. I remember her first big role in Clueless in 1995 as Tai. I then remember her blockbuster role in Girl, Interrupted with Angelina Jolie as a crazy girl. Then her other star studded role in Eminem's bio pic 8 Mile. She has also done voice overs as she had a re-occurring role in King Of The Hill to Happy Feet. She also had some great roles in Don't Say A Word, Just Married, and the sleeper classic The Groomsmen and I also will never forget her role in Sin City. I will definitely miss Brittany Murphy. God Bless

Public Enemies (2009)

I can understand America's obsession with gangsters especially when it comes to Hollywood. This I have to say was an excellent movie and Johnny Depp does an excellent job as 1930's depression era bank robber John Dillinger. The movie chronicles his escape from prison in 1934 and the FBI's struggles to catch this uncatchable criminal. Johnny gives the character of Dillinger a certain swagger and coolness (for lack of better terms) and makes him very charismatic. Overall I have to say they did an excellent job with the movie and you follow Dillinger through all of his struggles with losing compatriots while managing to escape prison twice and elude Christian Bale's character (FBI agent Melvin Puris). The FBI as you see in this movie was not taken serious and you see how they developed their tactics for getting witnesses to talk and how they started the idea of using informants. The movie also stars Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe: Rise Of The Cobra) as Pretty Boy Floyd, An excellent Jason Clarke (Death Race) as John "Red" Hamilton, Stephen Dorff (Blade) as Homer Van Meter, Billy Crudup (Watchmen) as J. Edgar Hoover, and an excellent performance from the beautiful Marion Cotillard (Nine) as John Dillinger's love interest Billy. The movie also features cameos by Giovanni Ribisi (Boiler Room), Shawn Hatosy (Alpha Dog), Former UFC fighter Don Frye, and Leelee Sobieski (Eyes Wide Shut). I highly recommend this movie to all to see. Four Stars Out Of Five

Fool's Gold (2008)

I came across this movie about a screw up in just about everything reunites with his ex wife and finds gold with a rich guy. They go against some other guys that are trying to find it as well that this screw up owes money to. That's all I can tell you without giving it all away. The movie has these key things going for it and it's the fact that the very hot Kate Hudson stars along heartthrob Matthew McConaughey and the veteran Donald Sutherland. Not to mention the movie also stars a very hot and young newcomer Alexis Dziena and funny man Kevin Hart (who stars in every spoof movie made today). The movie has it all in some great comedy, some action, and Kate Hudson in a bikini. Believe me, it's not the greatest movie in the world, but it's good enough to enjoy when there's nothing else on. I give it Three Stars Out Of Five

Enemy At The Gates (2001)

If you want to see a movie about World War 2 overall, rent Saving Private Ryan, but if you want to see a movie on World War 2 from a different perspective, then rent this one. The movie is about the real Soviet hero sniper Vassili Zaitsev (Played by Jude Law) and his contribution to the motherland that was weakening during the year of 1942 when Germany invaded Stalingrad. It all happens when a propagandist is saved by Jude Law and decides to build his character up to scare the Germans. It works until the Germans decide to send one of their greatest snipers in to battle Law. Ed Harris becomes the ultimate thorn in Law's side when he starts taking out everyone close to him in this game of cat and mouse. The Movie also stars Bob Hoskins, Joseph Fiennes, and a very beautiful Rachel Weisz. The only thing that bothered me was Law was the only one that spoke with a British accent and Harris with his American accent. Otherwise Four Stars Out Of Five

Hell Ride (2008)

When you think of bikers, you think it must be a bad ass movie. Well, this is definitely one for you fans of Sons Of Anarchy and Quentin Tarantino definitely delivers. The movie jumps back and forth from July 4Th, 1976 as we see a woman by the name of Cherokee being brutally murdered to set up what is a revenge themed movie. It centers around a biker gang named the Victors and their president Pistolero (played by Larry Bishop, who also writes the movie) as he's looking to get revenge on a group that is re-emerging called the Sixers. The sixers are run by Deuce (Played by the Late John Carradine) and Billy Wings (Played by Vinnie Jones) who is very ruthless. The whole movie pistol is trying to figure out who is with him or against him as he also is trying to find a certain someone as well. The movie also features Easy Rider himself Dennis Hopper as Eddie Zero. If you like Tarantino flicks, you'll love this as it has a over abundance of naked giels, sex, violence, and bad ass motorcyles. Four Stars Out Of Five

Star Trek (2009)

I was a little skeptical about see this movie as I was not the biggest Star Trek fan, but I was very surprised as to how well JJ Abrams takes this long running franchise and makes it a stunning visual effect masterpiece. It tells the story of all the beginnings of your favorite star ship enterprise crew like Captain Kirk, Spock (Zachary Quinto), Sulu (John Cho), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Bones (Karl Urban), and Chekov (Anton Yelchin). A Romulan miner's vessel has disrupted time and it's up to our young crew to take the helm and save the earth before he destroys it. The movie is full of surprise appearances and a who's who of actors in Hollywood. The movie features Eric Bana (Munich) as the villain Nero, Leonard Nimoy reprises his role as Spock but an old spock. The movie is full of adventure and has an excellent story around it. I think Chris Pine (Kirk) does an excellent job in this movie and makes Captain Kirk's character very cool and more hip to this century. One of my favorite scenes in the movie was seeing young Kirk take his step dad's convertible out and somehow when he turns on the radio in the car it manages to be playing the Beastie Boys song "Sabotage" before he send it's it off a cliff. So go out and rent this classic. Four and the Half Stars out of Five

Santa Buddies (2009)

I know what you guys are thinking and I was forced to watch this by my newphews, but I have to say that I did enjoy watching this movie. It's a cute movie for the little ones and I highly recommend it. It's the story of a dog who is next in line to be Santa's faithful dog companion, but the only problem is that Puppy Paws doesn't want to be involved with Christmas and all the other things because he wants to be a real dog. So, he escapes from the north pole and tries to find these family of dogs that work together and are related. Budderball (Voiced by Josh Flitter), Buddha (Voiced by Field Cate), B-Dawg (Voiced by Skyler Gisondo), Rosebud (Voiced by Liliana Mumy), Mudbud (Voiced by Ty Panitz) as the dogs Puppy Paws hopes will teach him to be a real dog. The other problem is that a sacred crystal keeps all the magic of christmas and it's losing powers because people have stopped believing. What will they do to save Christmas? Rent it and find out. The movie also features Christopher Lloyd as Stan Cruge (Instead of Scrooge) and George Wendt (yes the fat guy from Cheers) as Santa Claus. Four Stars out of Five

30 for 30: The U (2009)

I was highly anticipating the fact that I wanted to watch this being a huge fan of college football. Not to mention, this was directed by Billy Corben (Cocaine Cowboys) who I believe is the new breed of documentary style movie directors. This movie was truly amazing from the interviews with acclaimed coaches like Jimmy Johnson, Howard Schnellenberger, and Dennis Erickson, to players like Michael Irvin, Bennie Blades, Bernie Kosar, and Alonzo Highsmith. It has interviews with current NFL stars like Jeremy Shockey and Jonathon Vilma and it even features Luther Campbell of The 2 Live Crew because he had something to do with putting the Miami Hurricanes on the map by coining the term "The U". This doc shows you the rise of a mediocre football team to the most successful and highly controversial university on the map. Catch it on ESPN or maybe just maybe, they'll release it on DVD. Christmas is around the corner! Five Stars Out Of Five

Orphan (2009)

I thought this movie was very bazaar at times and frustrating as well. I thought the movie was done real well, but the character of Esther just really bothered me through out the whole movie. Esther is played by newcomer Isabelle Fuhrman and Esther is an orphan that seems like the perfect child on the outside, but has a deep dark secret on the inside. She is adopted by Vera Farminga (Running Scared) and Peter Sarsgaard (Jarhead), who play Kate and John, a couple with two kids that want to adopt a child to make it three since Kate had a miscarriage with the third. Kate starts to suspect Esther as people and members of her family start getting hurt and even killed by the child with that deep dark secret, but nobody believes her till it's too late. So go out and rent the movie to find out what Esther's secret is and I would probably visit the Redbox to get it for a dollar cause it's only worth seeing once. Two and the Half Stars out of Five

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra (2009)

First off I have to start by saying that I thought Dennis Quaid, Ray Park, Sienna Miller, Channing Tatum, and Byung-hun Lee all did an excellent job in this film. Before I rented it, I was a little skeptical about them taking my favorite cartoon and action figures as a child to live action film. I was not disappointed by any means. Their is plenty of action in this film and the actors do not disappoint at all. Marlon Wayans does an excellent job as Ripcord, Channing Tatum as Duke and Ray Park as Snake Eyes was my favorite in the film. I even have to say that Joseph Gordon Levitt did an excellent job in the film and could be a great Cobra Commander if they continue the series because this movie was made to see how the Cobra came to rise and not only does the movie have action, but it also has some serious tones as well as some great comedic moments by Wayans and Tatum. Their is even a little twist at the end of the movie and I am eager to see what they do with the series. So rent this because I don't want to give away too much. Four and the Half Stars Out Of Five

Saw VI (2009)

Every Halloween I go to the movies and every year I see the newest Saw movie. If you guessed it then you might be right, but I went to see the newest installment of the series. Right from the beginning the movie gets gruesome and it doesn't disappoint. This time Jigsaw has an agenda with the insurance company that denied him a chance at survival with cancer. So, he wants revenge and will stop at nothing to test people's wills to live. we also get to find out in this film exactly what was in the box Jill received from Jigsaw and the importance of the stuff inside. The movie has it's usual suspects in Tobin Bell coming back to play Jigsaw, Costas Mandylor as Det. Hoffman, Betsy Russell as Jill, and we even get to see Shawnee Smith reprise her role in the flashback scenes as Amanda. The movie also stars VH-1 Scream Queens winner Tanedra Howard, Eddie Winslow himself Darius McCrary and Atehna Karkanis comes back to play FBI agent Perez. The movie isn't bad and I do have to say that I actually did enjoy the film. Although You might be able to just skip it and wait for it to come out on DVD and rumor has it that theirs going to be a Saw 7. Three Stars Out Of Five

Starting This Week

I was going to do a 31 days of horror reviews but I have been set back by some issues so I will do the best I can to provide you with some Horror Movie Reviews leading up to Halloween.

44 Minutes: The North Hollywood Shoot-Out (2003)

This is the horrifying true story of one of the most deadliest shoot outs to occur in LA history. It is about two men, who are dressed in full armor and carrying AK-47's and other military type weapons, going to commit a robbery at a Bank Of America in North Hollywood. The two men played by Andrew Bryniarski (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Remake), The Program) and former UFC fighter Oleg Taktarov (Bad Boys 2, Rollerball) are eventually met by the LAPD as a woman walking her dog noticed the two going in with the weapons and what will become a long and horrifying shootout. The Police are played by Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City) a sort of preacher type cop who carries pictures of deceased gang members with him to try and change the minds of inner city youths, Michael Madsen (Kill Bill), plays a veteran cop who happens to be in the neighborhood and has been chasing these guys for years, Ron Livingston (Office Space) plays a swat team officer who has been going through some emotional issues since the death of his father, and a special cameo from Desperate Housewives cast member Jesse Metcalfe. This is actually an excellent movie and it is sometimes hard to believe that it actually happened. The end of the movie also includes some real life footage of the heroes of that day. Observe And Report (2009)

This is a really dark film about a bi-polar mall cop that is very delusional when it comes to reality. Set Rogen (Pineapple Express) plays Ronnie, a mall cop that really can't tell that he's seriously messed up in the cranium. He takes his job way too seriously and is obsessed with a make up girl who obviously thinks Ronnie is a tool and a creep. Anna Faris (Scary Movie) plays the said girl and Ronnie gets the opportunity he thinks he gets when Anna gets flashed by a pervert that Ronnie can't catch. This movie can be funny at times but like I stated before it get's real creepy and dark as well. The movie also stars Michael Pena (Gone In 60 Seconds), Aziz Ansari (I Love You, Man), and Ray Liotta (Goodfellas) as Detective Harrison. The real shinning star in this movie is Celia Weston (Dead Man Walking) who plays Ronnie's alcoholic but supportive mom. She was a real highlight to me as well as new comer Lauren Miller who plays a coffee store attendant that befriends Ronnie. I give it Three stars out of Five

The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto (2009)

I want to start off by saying that this is one whacked out film. It is definitely not one of the type of animated movies you let your kids watch. They have a song for example that tells you that "it is alright to jerk off to cartoons because the Japanese do it all the time." It is a whacked out, perverted sex, cartoon wild ride with a lot of cartoon action. The movie is about a washed up wrestler turned porn star named El Superbeasto (Voiced by Tom Papa), who falls in love with a foul mouthed stripper named Velvet Von Black (Voiced By Rosario Dawson) who gets kidnapped by Dr. Satan's (Voiced By Paul Giamatti) talking gorilla named Otto (Voiced by Spongebob Squarepants himself Tom Kenny). So, Superbeasto calls on his sister Suzi-X (Voiced By Sherri Moon Zombie) and her horny robot Murray (voiced by Brian Posehn) to help him save the girl before she marries Dr. Satan. Believe me, If I haven't intrigued you by now then I don't know what will. The movie also features voice cameos by Cassandra Peterson (Elvira), Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Sid Haig (The Devil's Rejects), Harland Williams (Half Baked), Daniel Roebuck (Rob Zombies Halloween 2) as his character from The Devil's Rejects Morris Green, and Clint Howard (Rock And Roll High School) to name a few. I enjoyed watching this movie and I still think Rob Zombie (House Of 1000 Corpses) is a genius. I give it Three Stars Out Of Five

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

At first I was a little confused from the beginning because I don't remember Logan being alive for as long as he has. According to the movie Victor A.K.A Sabertooth and Logan A.K.A. Wolverine are brothers and they fought in every major war since the civil war and on. It's not until Victor starts losing his cool that he and Logan are imprisoned for Victor losing his cool. They are then recruited by a man named Striker to do his dirty deeds. Hugh Jackman (X-Men) and Liev Schreiber (Defiance) join up with another group of mutants Played by Ryan Reynolds (Adventureland) as Dead Pool, Will i Am (Black Eye Peas) as John Wraith, Kevin Durand (Smokin Aces) as Frank Dukes, Daniel Henney (First American Role) as Agent Zero, and Dominic Monaghan (Lord Of The Rings) as Bradley. They go on a mission for striker who is played by Danny Huston (30 Days Of Night) and everything is going fine on a treasure hunt he leads them on until Logan decides enough is enough. Logan leaves and tries to live a normal life until Victor starts killing off mutants and goes after Logan's wife. This sets off Logan and this is where you see how Logan was created with the metal blades instead of the bone like ones he possess in the beginning. We start to find out that there is a deeper, more sinister meaning in what Striker is doing? You'll have to rent it to find out. I was very impressed with Will i Am's performance in this movie as well as Taylor Kitsch (The Covenant) who plays one of my favorite X-Men characters Remy LeBeau A.K.A. Gambit. He was the guy I liked the most in the movie and wished there was more of him in this movie. I have high hopes for the next installment of this movie. The movie also features the young X-Men crew that we all grew to love in the first three installments in this movie like Storm, Cyclops, and Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) himself makes an appearance. This is by far my favorite X-Men movie. Four Stars Out Of Five

Patrick Swayze R.I.P. (1952-2009)

Hollywood has lost one of it's best talents to come out of the eighties. Patrick Swayze has passed away after his long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was always one of my favorites ever since I saw him in Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders as Darrel Curtis. I loved seeing him in the movie Red Dawn, where he plays a young man forced to take care of his brother and many other high school kids after the Russians take over the school. I also loved the Movie Road House where he plays this bad ass bouncer who gets hired to turn around a bar. Obviously, he had other great movies he made like Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Black Dog, and many more. He is a legend and an Icon in his own right. God Bless Patrick Swayze. I also chose this picture cause I want to remember him for his great hair that he possessed.

Fast & Furious (2009)

Contrary to popular belief, this movie actually wasn't half bad. If your a total gear head then you might appreciate or hate this movie. Vin Diesel reprises his role as Dominic as well as Michelle Rodriguez (The Fast And The Furious, S.W.A.T.) as Letty, Jordana Brewster (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) as Mia, and Paul Walker (Varsity Blues, 2 Fast 2 Furious) as Brian O'Connor. This time Brian works for the FBI in LA and he is after a big time drug dealer. Well, Dom's girlfriend Letty gets killed and now Dom is after this guy as well. So, they team up to track down this drug dealer and hopefully Brian can win back Dom and Mia's trust that he lost after the first movie. The scenes with the cars are king in this movie and their is plenty of explosive action as well. It is basically what you'd want from this movie, but I hope the series dies here because Tokyo Drift totally sucked and this one isn't bad. I think Vin Diesel's time may have run out in the spotlight as he is reprising old roles once again for a measly paycheck. I give the movie three stars out of five as I thought the story was pretty good as well as the acting.

The Inglorious Bastards (1978)

Much to my dismay, I didn't know that Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds was a sort of remake of this movie that was released in 1978. I should have figured with his obsession with exploitation films, that he would've done this movie. This one is a lot different than the one in the theatres. The movie stars black exploitation legend Fred Williamson (Hammer, Black Caesar) as a shamed army guy, who with other men heading to be court marshaled, try to escape to Switzerland when the fall into some trouble on the way. Led by Lt. Yeager (Played By an underrated Bo Svenson), Williamson and company are on the fight for their lives when they decide to help the partisans and a an American colonel try to hijack a train that contains an atomic bomb. Can they all succeed at the mission or will they fail? This I thought was a great movie in itself that I enjoyed watching it. I usually hate war movies, but I couldn't stop watching. I love one of the captions on the movie poster where it says, "Whatever the dirty dozen did they do it dirtier." The movie is directed by Italian Enzo G. Castellari and he does an excellent job that it is well worth the money to rent. Oh by the way this movie has it all from explosions, to naked female German soldiers, and tons of fighting. Race To Witch Mountain (2009)

Even though it has the Disney tag on it, don't be fooled by it because this was an excellent movie and I'm starting to believe that maybe Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Get Smart, The Scorpion King) is the real deal for Hollywood. This movie had all the action a kid and an adult could want out of a movie about Aliens that want to recover something on Earth to help save their planet. Again, Dwayne plays a cab driver in Las Vegas that has seen his share of trouble when he runs into what he thinks is two adolescent teenagers in the back of his cab, but they turn out to be Aliens. The only problem for Dwayne besides running from the mob in Vegas is he also has the Department of Defense after him because he has the Alien subjects. The aliens are played by AnnaSophia Robb (Jumper, Bridge To Terabithia) who plays Sara and Alexander Ludwig (The Sandlot 3, Air Bud: World Pup) as Alex, who just want to save their planet as well as ours from invaders. The movie also features Carla Cugino (Righteous Kill, The Watchmen) as a UFO doctor, Tom Everette Scott (That Thing You Do!, An American Werewolf In Paris) as a special agent, Chris Marquette (Alpha Dog, The Girl Next Door) as another special agent who plays the typical scaredy cat one, Ciarán Hinds (There Will Be Blood, Munich) as the typical no frills, tough guy by the book special agent manningthe whole operation, and a cameos by Cheech Marin (Of Cheech And Chong Fame), Garry Marshall (The Twilight Of The Golds), and Dennis Hayden (The Man In The Iron Mask). This Movie has everything from Explosions, Alien Assassins, Train Wrecks, Aliens, and the weird Star Wars nerds that go to conventions. I give this movie Four Stars Out Of Five

The Midnight Meat Train (2008)

This is a very brutal and graphic movie about a meat butcher that kills people on the midnight train. Vinnie Jones (The Condemned, Year One) deservedly plays the aforementioned butcher named Mahogany and believe me I always thought Vinnie should've played this character. The story really follows Bradley Cooper's (The Hangover, The Rocker) character Leon, who is a photographer trying to find the best picture in the subway when he comes across this butcher. Now, Leon is on the hunt to figure out who this man is and how he is getting away with murder. The movie also stars Leslie Bibb (Iron Man, The Skulls) as Leon's girlfriend Maya, Brooke Shields (The Blue Lagoon) as Leon's boss, and it features a cameo by UFC Champion Quentin "Rampage" Jackson as a victim. I enjoyed this movie a lot and thought it was a breath of fresh air for the horror genre and believe me the ending will shock you. Three Stars Out Of Five

Laid To Rest (2009)

This was a okay movie that I wasn't too impressed with, but hey what the hell it only cost me a dollar to rent it out of a redbox. The problem I had from this was the girl (as she is known by in the movie because she can't remember who she is), her acting at first was okay and it got a little better towards the end. My other problem is where in the hell has Sean Whalen (The People Under The Stairs) been. He did a magnificent job in the aforementioned Wes Craven flick, he disappears, and returns to this movie about a serial killer with a chrome skull face that likes to bury his victims alive and videotape them as well. Oh and by the way he mutilates his victims as well. Again, this is an okay movie for the budget it had. Follow Bobbi Sue Luther as she tries to figure out just who she is and why this serial killer wants her. The movie gets very brutal and graphic towards the end, but I have to say the last half and hour of the movie is the best part. Two Stars Out Of Five

Tyson (2009)

I thought this movie was a very good look into the mind of a man who could have been the greatest boxer in history. The whole movie is basically an interview with "Iron" Mike Tyson and it even showcases highlights from every important boxing match in his career. You get to hear the desperation of a man that just wants to explain his side of the story from the loss to Buster Douglass, the rape conviction, failed marriage to Robin Givens, and the embarrassment of the rest of his career. They capture a very different side of Mike that nobody ever really gets to see and I think that is what makes this movie great. It kept me glued to my seat as I remembered what a great boxer he once was when I was little kid growing up to the baddest man on the planet. Believe me, you will be astonished by this man as you watch him. Four Stars Out Of Five

I Love You, Man (2009)

I first off have to say I was a little skeptical about renting this movie, but I have to say this is one for the bromance ages. It stars Paul Rudd (Knocked Up, Clueless) as Pete, a real estate agent in LA who just got engaged to his beautiful girlfriend, but there is one problem and it's because pete doesn't have a lot of guy friends. He's been too busy with girlfriends that he doesn't know how to chill out and be one of the guys as well as not having a best man for his wedding. So, Pete goes on a series of man dates to try and find a best friend after over hearing his girlfriend's friends talking about it. After a bunch of failed man dates, he finally finds a guy he can connect with and it Jason Segel (Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) who plays a sort of slacker/investment guy who is just what Pete needed. They become very close after discovering their love for the rock group Rush (who also has a cameo in the movie). Maybe their friendship is a little too close and that is what Zooey is wondering, who is played by Rashida Jones(The Office). The movie is great and is one of the best movies of '09. The movie features a lot of cameos by certain starsw like Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk Himself), Thomas Lennon (Balls Of Fury, Reno 911), Jay Chandrasekhar (Beer Fest, Supertroopers), Aziz Ansari (Human Giant, Observe And Report) as well as many others. The real stars of the film are Andy Samberg (Hot Rod) as Pete's gay brother, Jane Curtain (Coneheads) as his mom, J.K. Simmons (Spiderman, HBO's OZ) as his dad, Jamie Pressly (My Name Is Earl) as Denise, and Jon Favreau (The Break Up, Iron Man) as Denise's jerk off husband. I give this movie Four Stars Out Of Five

Halloween: Resurrection (2002)

As if we didn't have enough of Michael or him having his head chopped off didn't give us closure, we get the eighth installment of the series. We go right to a sanitarium from the get go where Laurie is apparently being kept. We find out from one of the nurses that Laurie had chopped the head off of the wrong guy. Apparently nobody realised that Michael wasn't the right EMT when he switched costumes with the guy. That I find to be a little hard to believe, but whatever it's Hollywood. So, Michael goes to the hospital to finish what he had started and Michael accomplishes just that. So now what is a serial killer to do with his life? Well you just take your ball and go home. There is only one problem for Michael Myers and that is Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks are shooting an Internet reality show right inside his house. So what is a guy to do? Well we see Michael trys to clean house. The movie stars Chris Durand as Michael Myers, Jamie Lee Curtis for the last time as Laurie Strode, Sean Patrick Thomas (Cruel Intentions, The Fountain) as a aspiring chef named Rudy, Thomas Ian Nicholas (American Pie, Rookie Of The Year) as a contestant, and Bianca Kajlich (Bring It On) as the heroine Sara. It's not a bad movie but I could've done without Busta Rhymes being in it. Two And The Half Stars Out Of Five

Halloween: H20 (1998)

In tribute to the series I will continue reviewing the rest of the films in the series as the tenth installment was released today. When they decided to do H20, they had a problem and that problem was we know that Laurie strode is dead and Jamie as well so what do we do about it? Well, we just erase the slate and start over as if Jamie never existed and we will welcome back Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween '78, The Fog) to the series. We also say that Jamie is a the head mistress of a private school and that she had a son instead of a daughter. The role of her son John is played by Josh Hartnett (30 Days Of Night, Lucky Number Slevin) and his girlfriend is played by Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain, Dick). LL Cool J also stars in this movie as a security guard and moonlights as a cheesy romance author. The movie was a great comeback for the series from the disaster that preceded it. The story is Michael has been gone for over 20 years and no one knows if he is dead or alive. They presume that he is dead, but in all actuality he is alive and more pissed off then before. Jamie's character is having a tough time of letting go of the past and takes it out on her son as she is naturally overprotective and is waitng for the day that Michael shows up. Well, her worst nightmare that she could ever imagine is about to come true as Michael stalks her and her son. So, go out and rent it and find out if Michael can accomplish what he started 20 years ago. The movie also stars Adam Arkin (Hitch, Full Moon High) as a teacher and Laurie's secret lover, Jodi Lynn O'Keefe (She's All That, The Crow: Salvation), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days Of Summer, Angels In The Outfield), Chris Durand (Uncle Sam, Miss March) as Michael Myers, and Jamie Lee Curtis's mom Janet Leigh (Psycho, The Manchurian Candidate) as her secretary. Halloween 2 (2009)

I have been waiting to see this movie since I had heard that Rob Zombie was going to direct it. So, I went to the first showing of the movie and I have mixed feelings about the movie since I left the cinema. First off, the movie starts off with a touching scene bewteen young Michael (now played by Chase Wright Vanek) and his mother who is once again played by Sherri Moon Zombie (House of 1000 Corpses, Rob Zombie's Halloween) and it is a scene where she hands him something to comfort him. First, I want to start by saying that I wish Daeg Faerch had reprised his role as young Michael because Chase can't cut the mustard on that one. Then we are brought back to that night where we see Laurie wandering the streets after she shot Michael. She is discovered by Sherriff Brackett and she is brought to the hospital to receive extensive treatment that you have the pleasure of seeing. Then, it goes to the coroners as they are driving off with Michael's body and the sick conversation that is happening between the two workers played by Richard Brake (Perkins 14, The Black Dhalia) and Dayton Callie (TV Series Sons Of Anarchy) respectively. The movie is a mayhem, blood filled adventure as Laurie is trying to cope with has happened in her life. She is distraught and has frequent nightmares of the masked man she has no clue about. She now lives with Sheriff Brackett and Annie and they too are trying to cope with the mess that has happened as Halloween approaches. We also see Dr. Loomis in his fun filled adventure as he tries to make money off the terrible night and all the ridicule he deals with for doing so. We also see that Michael has visions that drive him, visions that makes him do his every move and why he does it. The usual suspects are back in this movie as Scout Taylor Compton (Wicked Little Things, Rob Zombie's Halloween) reprises her role as Laurie, Danielle Harris (Halloween 4 and 5, Rob Zombie's Halloween) as Annie, Brad Douriff (Child's Play, Graveyard Shift) as Sheriff Brackett, Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Rob Zombie's Halloween) as Dr.Loomis, and Tyler Mane (Rob Zombie's Halloween, The Devil's Rejects) as Michael Myers. Then there are some cameos in this movie from various people such as Weird Al Yankovic, Chris Hardwick (House Of 1000 Corpses), Caroline Williams (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Daniel Roebuck (Rob Zombie's Halloween), and Margot Kidder (The Superman Series) as Laurie's shrink. The movie is very gory and bloody so if you enjoy that you'll enjoy this and there is a shocking secret that Laurie learns about herself in this movie. We already know that she is Michael's sister, but what's the other part. The ending is shocking as well and the end is very reminiscent of the movie Psycho. Again, this is Rob reinventing the movie and freshening it up for a new generation. I'm writing this part a week later and I have to say that I actually did enjoy the movie. The reason for that is I understand what Rob was trying to do with this movie. I just hope all the people on the hate blogs can only see that this series needed a fresh look. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)

This was probably the most shameful of the Halloween sequels as they tried too much to really breakdown Michael as we last left him he was broken out of jail. In this movie it starts off Jamie is running away from something after she had just given birth. Who is she running away from? Well of course, it must be Michael Myers! Danielle Harris was supposed to reprise her role as Jamie, but it never happened as she disagreed to the way Jamie dies in the movie. J.C. Brandy got the call to fill her shoes for the film and this angered a lot of fans. Now Michael has killed Jamie and the question is what is there left to do for him? Well, Jamie's mom had relatives that decided to live in Michael's old house and Jamie had a kid that is now missing. So, he plans to kill everyone there and find the baby so he can kill it too. Donald Pleasence returns for the last time to play his most famous role of Dr. Loomis. Unfortunately, he passed away during the making of this film and he left a great mark on the series. The movie also stars a young Paul Rudd (I Love You Man, Clueless) as the little boy turned grown up Tommy, who witnessed Michael attack Jamie Lee Curtis on Halloween night in 1978. Tommy is a little strange and not to mention he is obsessed with Michael as he tries to help Kara Strode, who is played by Marianne Hagan and Keith Bogart, who plays her son Tim escape the wrath of Michael Myers. George P. Wilbur reprises his role as Michael Myers for a second time in this disappointing sequel. Two Stars Out Of Five

Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers (1989)

This was a movie that came out way too quick and you can tell they rushed it, but again the old bastard just won't die. Again, Danielle Harris returns to play Jamie as well as Ellie Cornell as Rachel and Donald Pleasence as Dr. Loomis in this tale where Jamie survives the first attack, only to kill her Mom on the same night and she can't talk. She also discovers that she has this ability to connect with Michael's mind as she is being treated at a children's hospital. Michael develops a new plan to lure Jamie and he is going to use his new connection with Jamie's mind to get her out of the hospital and into his deadly arms. The movie also stars the beautiful Wendy Kaplan (Summer Dreams: The Story of the Beach Boys) as Rachel's friend Tina, Beau Starr once again as Sheriff Meeker, and Don Shanks as Michael Myers. This is one movie sequel I wished they had waited to make but switching to a new movie company. Still it wasn't bad but the real treat is that the final battle takes place where it all began. Three stars out of Five

Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers (1988)

Now the reason for this movie is very simple and it's the producers felt that they had let all the loyal fans down with Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch. That movie had nothing to do with Michael or the previous story so they said well lets bring back Michael. We all know how Halloween 2 ended so we just say, "hey Michael never died, he's just been in a coma for ten years." That is where the movie starts as two doctors are going to pick up Michael from a sanitarium that he's been locked away in and transfer him to another hospital. The only problem is that Michael some how wakes up from his coma and kills everyone in the ambulance. Now he sets out to kill Laurie's daughter Jamie Lloyd who is played by Danielle Harris (Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter is Dead, Rob Zombies Halloween) in her very first role. The story is Jamie Lee Curtis had a kid, died, and now her kid is staying with people that adopted her. Donald Pleasence reprises his role once again as Dr. Loomis and is the only one that ever truly believes that Michael would come back to kill again. So now, Michael is on the hunt once again, killing anyone that gets in his way while he tries to accomplish whatever goal it is he has on mind. Ellie Cornell (House Of The Dead, Halloween 5) stars as Rachel, Jamies adoptive sister and the girl who is supposed to play the miss innocent girl role, Sasha Jenson (Dazed And Confused, Buffy The Vampire Slayer) stars as Rachel's cheating boyfriend Brady, Beau Starr (Goodfellas, Fletch) as Sheriff Meeker, and George P. Wilbur (Halloween 4 thru 6) plays the part of Michael Myers. Can Jamie survive the mayhem that is about to change her life forever or will Michael Finally succeed. It was a nice return for the series, but not that great. Three and the Half Stars Out Of Five

Halloween II (1981)

Now it's the sequel and we all know that sometimes sequels suck. But there was a burning question deep in our minds and that was why did Michael go after Laurie and what if he didn't die. All those questions were answered in this movie that brings us back to that faithful Halloween night in 1978. The cops are investigating what in the heck just happened in their quiet community. Not to mention, Michael's body wasn't found and where could he go if Dr. Loomis shot him six times. Well, Laurie is brought to the hospital and that is where all the fun begins as Michael follows them there. Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her role as Laurie as well as Donald Pleasence and the two are just trying to stay alive long enough to stop the demon with no conscious. I turly enjoyed the sequel as it gives us this rush as we watch as Michael continues his quest that he started in the first movie. The movie also stars Lance Guest (Jaws The Revenge) stars as an EMT named Jimmy that falls for Laurie, Leo Rossi (Grand Theft Auto, One Night At McCools) stars as Jimmy's partner and male chauvinistic EMT Budd, Pamela Susan Shoop, a career TV actress plays a nurse that has the most famous death scene in the movie (I won't give it away!), and Dick Warlock (Firestarter, Pumpkinhead) gets to play the role of Michael Myers or as he is passionately known as "The Shape". Watch the mayhem ensue as Michael sets out to finish the job. Four And The Half Stars Out Of Five

Halloween (1978)

Since Rob Zombie's Halloween II comes out tomorrow, I figured I'd give you the skinny on my favorite horror series. I'll start with the movie that started it all. That's Right, the 1978 classic movie by John Carpenter "Halloween" that is about a boy who kills his older sister on Halloween night and is put away for a long time. After seeing his shrink Dr, Loomis, who is played by Donald Pleasence (You Only Live Twice, Halloween 1 thru 6) decides to escape and finish what he started years before. The only problem is that his target doesn't know what's about to happen. Jamie Lee Curtis (True Lies, Trading Places) stars in her first role as Laurie Strode, the girl Michael Myers is targeting. Will Michael succeed or will Dr. Loomis stop the monster before it's too late? The movie also stars PJ Soles (Rock & Roll High School, Carrie) as one of Laurie's friends Lynda, Nancy Loomis (The Fog, Assault On Precinct 13) as the other friend Annie, Charles Cyphers (Assault On Precinct 13, Death Wish II) as Sherrif Brackett, and Tony Moran as the one and only Michael Myers. For the small budget it had and the fact it was filmed in Pasadena but we're told it's Haddonfield, Illinois, it is a classic movie and thank god John Carpenter wrote it. Five Stars out of Five

Adventureland (2009)

I actually enjoyed watching this movie despite thinking that it was going to be a "Waiting" type of comedy. This movie is this generations "Sixteen Candles" type of movie. It is about a kid named James who recently graduates from college, but is forced to find a summer job because his parents are willing to pay for him to go to grad school. So he gets a job at an amusement park called Adventureland. This job helps James figure out what he needs to prepare for the real world as he runs into issues of love. Jesse Eisenberg (The Education Of Charlie Banks, Cursed) plays James and he does a fantastic job playing a kid who might have graduated college but hasn't experienced life like he should be. Kristen Stewart (Jumper, Twilight) plays Em, the girl James is both into and confused about. Em, is a very confused girl herself and doesn't know what to do when it comes to which relationship she should continue on. Should she still hook up with Ryan Reynolds (Waiting, Van Wilder) who plays the parks handyman by day and wanna be rock star by night or hook up with James? The movie features a great cast to boot. The movie stars Bill Hader (Hot Rod, Superbad) as James's boss, Kristen Wiig (Knocked Up, Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs) as Bill Hader's wife, Martin Starr (Stealing Harvard, Knocked Up) as James's friend Joel, and the very sexy Margarita Levieva (Noise) as Lisa P. just to name a few. It's a fantastic movie and I recommend it. Three And The Half Stars Out Of Five

Inglorious Basterds (2009)

I went to the movies today to see Brad Pitt in the new Quentin Tarantino movie entitled "Inglorious Basterds" which is about a group of soldiers that go on a mission to do one simple thing and thats to kill Nazis. For those that know Tarantino movies, there is a lot of dialouge but don't be discouraged by that because the movie is very funny and Brad Pitt does an excellent job. There is another story that goes on as well about a girl whose family is killed by Nazis and so she is on a mission for revenge. Much like Tarantino's style there usually is more than one story that goes on and it all comes together in the end. Brad Pitt (Seven, Fight Club) plays Lt. Aldo Raine, a redneck from Tennessee who is charge of a group of outcasted Jews, a German soldier, and Eli Roth (Grindhouse, Hostel). The movie also stars Christoph Waltz (Jacob, Catherine The Great) who plays Col. Hans Landa, a man that is hired by Hitler to find Jews in France. This movie features a lot of European actors like Mélanie Laurent as runaway Jew Shosanna, Dianne Kruger (Troy, National Treasure) as legendary German actress Bridget Von Hammersmark, Daniel Brühl (The Bourne Ultimatum) as war hero Fredrick Zoller, and Till Schweiger (Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, Driven) as Nazi soldier turned Basterd Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz. The movie also features brief cameos from the likes of Mike Myers (Waynes World, Shrek) as a general and Samuel L. Jackson as a narrator. Like I said before I thought this movie was terrific even though it was two and the half hours long. Four And The Half Stars Out Of Five

Road Trip: Beer Pong (2009)

This is probably the dumbest movie ever and I should've never bothered because I should've known straight to video sequels just suck. The movie has the same premise as the first Road Trip, but this is about three guys who want to go to Atlanta for a beer pong tournament. The only problem is Preston Jones (Superbad, Miracle Dogs Too) has a girlfriend that he's crazy about until she transfers to his college. Then by chance a girl he never got to score with before he met his girlfriend has gotten back into his life. So, now his friends and him are on the ultimate road trip to Nashville and they run into a whole lot of trouble on the way. The only real funny scene is with Danny Pudi (Giants Of Radio) and his phone sex scene. Nestor Aaron Absera (Van Wilder: Freshman Year) returns to play the stoner, beer pong expert. The Last House On The Left (2009)

This is a remake of the the original movie which was written and directed by the horror legend Wes Craven (Nightmare On Elm Street, Scream). The movie is about two girls that run into something you never ever want to run into and that is a group of paranoid, homicidal, runaway fugitives. The girls are then brutally beaten, raped, and left for dead. This movie isn't for everyone as some of the scenes are hard to swallow. The movie stars Sara Paxton (Superhero Movie, Sydney White) as Mari and Martha MacIsaac (Superbad, Ice Princess) as Paige and they are the two girls who run into the trouble. The criminals are played by Aaron Paul, Riki Lindhome, and Garret Dillahunt. After doing their deed they by chance end up going to the house where Mari's parents are and they have no clue that there housing the criminals that raped and beat their missing daughter until one of the break out performances from Spencer Treat Clark (Mystic River, Gladiator) who plays Justin, a son to one of the criminals who leaves a clue for Mari's mother to find. Justin is torn between doing what his father wants him to do and what he wants to do. Mari's vengeful parents are played by Monica Potter (Saw, Along Came A Spider) and Tony Goldwyn (Kiss The Girls, Ghost) who play Mr and Mrs Collingwood respectfully. That point is where the movie gets really good. Who will survive and who will die. Vengeance is a dish best served cold. The Movie is brutal and I warn you of that but it was a decent movie. What We Do Is Secret (2007)

This is a good documentary about probably one of the worst bands I have ever heard. The movie is about a punk group "The Germs" and it documents their rise and fall. I was surprised to learn that both Belinda Carlisle of the Go-Gos and Pat Smear of Nirvana/Foo Fighters fame were members of this band. Shane West plays the part of the highly delusional, drugged up lead singer Darby Crash, Rick Gonzalez (Old School) plays Pat Smear, Lauren German (Hostel II) plays my beloved Belinda, Bijou Phillips (Hostel II) plays Lorna Doom. The movie is a biography of the band and shows their trials and tribulations that they encompass for their whole careers. If it wasn't the music being so crappy i'd probably like this movie a lot. Dead Snow (2009)

There is nothing I like more in a horror film than a really good put together zombie flick. To make it even better it's about Nazi Zombies stuck in the Norwegian mountains. Other wise known to the rest of the world as "Død Snø", this is a film done by a Norwegian director by the name of Tommy Wirkola and the film is in their language, but it's overdubbed in English. So, it almost looks like those ancient kung fu movies where the mouth moves and eventually their is some actual talking. Otherwise, I think it's a great movie and nothing looks cooler than Nazi zombies going bonkers in the mountains. The movie is about some college kids that go on a ski trip vacation, only to find out that their plans are going to change when they discover some gold that those Nazi Zombies want back. So go out and find out for yourself if these kids can survive the bloodbath. The movie in my mind was cliche but it was done very well and deserves this rating of Four Stars Out Of Five

R.I.P. John Hughes (1950-2009)

I know I'm a little late in posting this but the movie world lost one of it's greatest minds of the 1980's and 90's. If there ever was a movie that was about teens and you related to it, that was probably because it was written or directed by Mr. Hughes. I mean the man was a genius and his resume of movies he wrote is very long. He is credited with writing National Lampoons Vacation (1983), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), Weird Science (1985), Pretty In Pink (1986), European Vacation (1985), The Breakfast Club (1985), Sixteen Candles (1984), Home Alone (1990), Curly Sue (1991), and Dutch (1991) just to name a few. The last movie that John Hughes wrote was Drillbit Taylor (2008), which starred Owen Wilson and Unfortunately now we will never know what else that brilliant mind could have made. So, God bless you Mr. Hughes and thank you for all the wonderful memories you gave me.
